View Full Version : Idle 28 C Load 45 C help........
I first noticed this the other day. I had never taken my load temp because the idle was so low. I checked after I played a game for a few hours but not while it playing.... bout 36 c if i remember right.
But I checked after Folding for 10 min. and it was @ 45 C. Should there be an 17 C increase from idle to load? I didnt think that was right so I opened my case and removed the heatsink and found that in the sink fans there was a lot of dust. there was even dust under the heatsink on the processer. I cleared all of it out, cleaned the CPU reapplied ASII but there wasnt even a diference of one degree.
I have no cooling cept cpu fan on a thermoengine heatsink.
Im going to try to add more cooling I guess.........back to the delta.........
the temperature only seems to be that high when I fold though.

Take the side of your case off and see if you notice a differance.

Sounds like you need to get the air moving through the case better. Start by being sure everything you currently have is working correctly. If the heatsink fan was loaded with dust, chances are the power supply is in similar condition. Vaccuum it out real good and be sure the power supply is moving a reasonable amount of air. If that doesn't improve the situation, it's time to start thinking about more fans. I'd start with an exhaust fan in the upper rear of the case. If there's no room for one, you might want to replace the power supply fan with something that moves more air. Otherwise you'll need to cut a blowhole in the top of the case and mount a fan there. If that's not enough, you probably need to add an intake fan in the lower front of the case.

before you go getting crazy take the side of your case off and see if you get better temps. If you do then it's a case air flow issue.
First thing you do is flip the rear exhaust fan over to blow air into the case right over the CPU.
if that wont do then you go crazy and buy a water block or get a hoot:D
I agree I need more cooling, but there isnt much room in the case left. But I was thinking, since I probaly have to mod, I need a dremel and another fan.... so that would be almost 100 bucks right? And couldnt I get a cheap watercooling kit for that much?
OK, I put a delta on and also put a 80mm fan in the back of the case above the CPU.
27 C idle and 41 C max load
39 C with the side off

And if you got the water cooling kit you prolly stil want the dremel.
just take it one step at a time and see what you can get to with what you have.
And then figgure what will do for cooling before you start.

did the fan blow into or out of the case?
the 80mm fan is blowing out of the case
the delta is sucking off the heatsink

If you flip both fans you will see 3C drop
So 80 into the case and delta onto the HS
I flip them both and I now max load @ 37 C. Im suprised the temp went down so much. My system temperature did go up though, from 26 C to 32 C. And I now idle @ 30 C.
Thanks for the help.
Are these temperatures alright for my system?

your system temp might have gone up cause now you are actualy getting air over it, or the probe is now in the path of hot air insted of cool air.
All cases are set up wrong for cooling. The manufactures feel people dont want air blowing on there desks from thier cases.
Is it 37 with the side on?
37 won't hurt anything. Most here feel about negative one bazzilion would be close to good enough.
If your happy, then your happy.
yeah I put the case side back on
