Dear onefstsnake,

I have officially extended the time it will take you to pass me to a total of over 2 months. Please note: my second SMP client has yet to turn in a unit (first one done today). You will take more than 3 months to pass me. Hit the gas bro or I'll be forced to leave you behind! :burn:

Signed,

JLF12345

PS- The 2 months is counting from when you stated you would pass me in 1.x months in November.

Yeah that and my PPD has went down a bit. Been playing too much MW2.. lol
But Christmas is next week and I have an i7 920 sitting next to me.

Congrats on getting your clients setup though.

lol. I've noticed GPU2 has been dropping low PPD units alot the last week... this weekend I should have a chance to figure out why my SMP VMs keep failing to fold. I setup the Windows SMP client in the mean time (I know... ew...). I'm thinking about hawking the classified forums for a 940, as those supposedly work with an ASUS beta bios, even if they are not officially supported. Still havent asked how that would run via an AM2 board (other than gimped, also concerned about the 590 Nvidia chipset and overclocking). Also, I've heard of people getting the full-blown AM3 PhenomX4s running on this board, which would give me a piecemeal upgrade path (aka- allow me to get past the executive office, otherwise known as: the wife).

Yeah I saw that unlocked 550 in the FS section w/ mobo. Great deal.

For some reason my Athlon 6000+ dropped from 2k ppd to 1.5k...

Bluefalcon13
12-16-09, 08:19 PM
I'd hop on that, but I gots no funds... thats what I get for making a baby(due in Jan/Feb)!

onefstsnake
12-16-09, 08:35 PM
Well I think a baby will be much more exciting than a new mobo and cpu.

Im buying a house soon and getting married shortly there after. So im trying to get this new i7 rig built before then. I have a feeling that mortgage + wife = no spending money... lol

Bluefalcon13
12-16-09, 08:45 PM
do it now... it'll all disappear after the house + marriage! Don't get me wrong, I love my wife to death, and I look forward to the day I get to see my daughter Sofie for the first time... but I still remember years ago, when I was stationed in Korea, and only worried about having enough money to hit the bar that night, AND afford computer upgrades :D

Bluefalcon13
12-18-09, 06:30 AM
Dude, you are slacking... you aren't even on my 5 top threats tracker anymore! O.o

I'm sure you'll be back, the MacBook Pro isn't folding 24/7 anymore... new job today, and I'm using it as my work computer.

heh. I've easily spent 5 grand on home crap this year and we haven't even done any big projects, just little stuff. We're not home poor but dang...its something you don't realize until you get into your first home. Suddenly you have no furniture, and your wife wants you to paint everything in site to make it "homey". ...plus there's all the power tools I've got now. :)

onefstsnake
12-18-09, 07:16 PM
Well everything is folding again. Though my 8600GTS is going so slow... 80ppd...

Might try and find a cheap 8800 to replace it.

Oh I got all the tools I need. 5'x4' ball bearing tool box. Just about every standard and metric socket in std and deep well as well as 6 and 12pt. Metric and standard ratcheting wrenches. An assortment of long and short ratchets 1/4" to 1/2" drive. Breaker bars, pry bars, and torque wrenches. About every type of screw driver you could think of. Phillips, flat head, allen, star, torx, square and a few other types. Impact gun, cordless 18v drill, dremel, drill press, tap and die sets, 3 ton jacks....

Ok I think Ive rambled on enough...

I have a feeling that mortgage + wife = no spending money... lol

I just looked it up in the dictionary, and apparently, wife now reads: no longer allowed to have fun with money. Add a mortgage on top of that, and ! :p

So I cant complain.

For $90k, I wouldn't either. On the more serious side, Congratz on the upcoming marriage.

thats not a bad deal. We got our house here in San Antonio for $110k. 2 car garage, 2 story, 3 bed rooms, and 2.5 bath (cant remember sq. ft. but I think it was around 1600, not counting the garage) and a nice sized lot for being in the city.

I've got a big gpu wu turning in this morning, as well as a SMP wu that hasnt counted. Donno if the win7 smp wu is gonna finish in time, as I was trying to get the VM working for more PPD. My production is gonna drop, as my MBP is my work computer now with my new job. Small price to pay though cause I HATE using a slow computer at work... :P

Bluefalcon13
12-19-09, 09:03 PM
geez... onefst... I've almost pushed you back into march 2010! you need to step on it man!

Bluefalcon13
12-19-09, 11:31 PM
I'm such a knucklehead.... seems I've been running my MBP in gimp mode this whole time... should be interesting what my PPD gets up to now that I'm using the full 2.4ghz on the laptop :D

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 12:08 AM
Yeah I should level out soon.

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 10:38 AM
well... HFM.net has me with 6.7k PPD atm.... so maybe I'll ditch this deep red color for the normal red after all :D

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 01:27 PM
Im at about 7,300ppd average.
Thinking about moving my 8800 Ultra to my other rig so it can fold @ 100%

When I fold the 8800 and this Phenom II the PPD of the 8800 drops to 4000-5000ppd instead of about 7000ppd if I run just the GPU client.

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 01:34 PM
how are you folding on the CPU? VM or windows

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 01:35 PM
All my CPU clients fold in VM Ubuntu 9.04

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 01:39 PM
add a line to the VM config file... lemme dig it out, and run the gpu clients on 'low' settings in the advanced config... I'll go get that line...

Mine currently chokes my VM when I'm folding the 353 pointers... almost like i cant feed the video card fast enough, but the times/frames are staying the same... 1:10/353, 2:40/787, 8(and change)/1888 :D

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 01:40 PM
add this line to the config file (via notepad) and keep the VM minimized..

priority.ungrabbed= "idle"

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 01:41 PM
You mean priority ungrabbed = idle?

Already added that.

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 01:43 PM
make sure your gpu2 advacned config is set to 'low' and not idle...

ATM, my GPU is trumping the VM in all cases

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 01:45 PM
yup its set to low as is the VM.

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 01:48 PM
wierd... cause my GPU will literally choke my VM when it gets the small and fast WUs... I've had the SMP client jump to just under 40mins/frame during one of those before... but the GPU kept trucking at its normal speeds

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 02:01 PM
Yeah I dunno. Kinda backwards.

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 02:12 PM
Well I dunno I cant even open the VMX file any more...

Well I can but its just a bunch of symbols.

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 02:15 PM
odd... maybe it has something to do with notfreds vs. ubuntu VMs... not the symbol thing, but the smp clients eating into your ppd on your gpu

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 02:19 PM
Yeah im not really sure.
When I added the ungrabbed line I didnt notice any change in PPD.

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 02:23 PM
you could always set the -oneunit flag, and when it finishes, get a notfred's instance running.

notfreds was cake... better then even pie... I setup mine with a static IP, and use hfm.net to monitor it. its already got samba working too, so all you do is load the image, set your name/team, and let her rip (and IP addy if you wanna make it static like me...).

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 02:30 PM
Yeah Im looking at the Notfreds guide now.

Half of what Im reading makes me feel like a total noob :sly:

12-20-09, 02:36 PM
hey, you can always follow our video guide on youtube...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruUMFIBIkaQ

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 02:39 PM
its real easy.. youll understand once you install it... basically, you install it, set it to bridged networking, then when it boots, you write down the ip addy...

open a browser on your host, and punch in that number, and viola, web interface to the folding VM (you dont even mess with the VM directly, all config is done via this web browser

setup your settings, I personally setup a static IP, as my router is .254 and uses a full class C network (private) so I set the VM to .253 just so I dont have to guess what my ip is after I start it up. you can view the log file from the browser, and you point hfm.net to it either via web, or samba file sharing

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 02:46 PM
Well I changed the static IP and now its borked lol.

I have no clue what kind of router I have. (some POS comcast unit)

Can HFM monitor it w/o a static IP?

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 02:53 PM
yes, but you have to browse to to the folder on the VM (from where the hfm.net is installed) so you can point it there, just like any other LAN networked PC. Just make sure samba is on, and you need to use that IP address when the machine comes up (in VM window) to get a browser pointed to that IP so you can config it...

If you want to try and fix your router, just do an 'ipconfig' in cmd, and your gateway should be your router :D

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 02:55 PM
where in VA are you from? Just curious, as I grew up in Manassas O.o

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 03:00 PM
Dumfries, about 25 min from Manassas.

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 03:04 PM
Ok its up and running.

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 03:34 PM
Wow...
GPU is now at 2200ppd... and CPU is at 2500ppd.

GPU went from 0:49 to 2.10 frame times...

WTH.

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 03:49 PM
ahh dumfries, been there a few time..

as for the PPD, you did set the GPU2 client in -configonly to low and not idle right (under advanced options)? It might still show up in task manager as 'low' but really be 'idle'

ebug122
12-20-09, 03:51 PM

My 260 did the exact same thing earlier today

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 04:24 PM
Yup both are set to low.

I just shut down everything ATM.

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 04:51 PM
Thats really weird... I know your card is faster, and your CPU is better than my setup, but its not THAT different...

all I did was set my GPU2 instance to low in advanced config, and add that idle line to the VM config for notfreds... they both register as 'low' in task manager....

Bluefalcon13
12-20-09, 04:52 PM
I can sit there and watch the cpu% in task manager, and the VM drops some when the GPU wants more...

onefstsnake
12-20-09, 04:55 PM
Who knows.

I went back to ubuntu.

Ordering the mobo and ram tonight!

Also my 1000w modular Corsair PSU came yesterday.
Still need a GPU... But im at my spending limit till next pay check...

Might throw the old 8600gts in it.
