I have a BFG GTX 260 oc Maxcore 896mb 216 cores and i usually have it overclocked to 701/1215 and ive read about everyone getting temps around 70-80 celcius, however according to GPU-z i have never seen this temperature on my video card before. with my case fans and the GPU fan at around 55% i get temps between 45-55 celcius (idle 38 no fans-44). i played prototype on full for about 30 mins and it didnt get past 48C same goes for badlands. however i think its not performing as well as it should, in prototype the frames i get are around 30-55 fps and i noticed even badlands would run sometimes below 60 fps. Could it be that my 600 watt power supply isnt giving enough power or my e6600 cpu (not overclocked) is bottlenecking performance? i wanna get this running optimal for when i get nvidia's 3d glasses.

Yeh your processor is your bottleneck... if you can OC it up to around 3.2GHz you will see a nice jump in performance

What resolution do you play at? If its below 1920x1080, chances are overclocking that CPU would help your performance as sandy mentioned.

i got it to OC up to 3.09 any higher and it failed to boot. The frames on prototype however increased from a minimum of 35fps to a max of 80fps so it increased alot. However the video card is still running cool (45 celcius) and guess i can over clock my cpu more to get better performance. since its failing to boot at anything over 3.09 do i have to increase the voltage?

Yep... welcome to overclocking. Please take a look at the guide linked in my signature to get you off the ground!

Also, the FPS you listed didnt tell us much as you never initially stated your minimums and maximums. Glad it appeared to work though as that is what counts!

Your complete system specs listed (in a signature preferably) would help us help you!

So i tried again to overclock the cpu i got it to run at 3.3 GHZ and the ram timings at 5-5-5-15, as for the voltage i left it on auto cause apparently the motherboard adjusts the voltages accordingly for overclocking. It runs good and i look at CPU-z and it says that core voltage is at 1.57!! vs 1.35 standard is this even safe?

At 3.3 Ghz fps was increase even further yet gpu temps stayed the same so does this mean its still bottlenecking?

Thanks everyone for your help btw

That overclocking guide I mentioned to you above, tells you that you shouldnt run voltages on auto. The motherboard tends to overvolt in favor of stability.

The GPU temps staying the same doesnt have a bearing on what is bottlenecking it usually.

Don't trust GPU-Z.

The only program I've found that actually records the correct temp is RiverTuner.
Also is that the GPU-Z temp when you alt-tab out of a program? RiverTuner records the temps of your GPU so you can see what the max temp was.

Use Rivertuner and tell us what the results of that was.

I can confirm GPU-Z is correct because i made fan profiles on Rivatuner so that when temps go over 46 the fans go to 55% and over 58 c fans go to 80% which i have never heard before except for this one time i forgot to turn on case fans.

I use GPU-Z to monitor the temps because i can see it in realtime on my 2nd monitor since it auto refreshes even tho a game is playing. so while im playing i can see all the sensors on the other monitor live.

That overclocking guide I mentioned to you above

Excuse my stubbornness i think ill get onto reading that.

GPUz has never given me any different readings than Rivatuner. Also, I would personally use Realtemp as it has GPU and CPU temps, minimum and maximums as well.

Meh, GPU-Z gives the right idle temps but apparently 39 degrees is the hottest my GTX 260 gets even when running furmark.
According to rivertuner the top temp is 68 degrees with a 2 hour burn in furmark (reached 68 after about 30 mins and there wasn't an increase after that)

Realtime is pretty good, i like the quick cpu benchmark, that'll be good for when i want to over clock more. However my gpu is not detected?

Realtemp?

Anyway, you would want to use Prime95 for the CPU test, not anything RT has to offer. It isnt detected??? It grabbed mine and I have the same card (well EVGA brand).

What type of cooling do you have? i tried Fumark and it went to 61-62 with fan speed of 92 im sure it wouldve reached 68. when it reaches 62 i put on my case fans on and it cools to 58 celcius with gpu fan speed of 55% and it didnt move from there so im guessing i have a good set up with the fans. i got 2 fans (1 90 1 80mm) hitting GTX right on and one 80m on the cpu and a 120mm as an exhaust and i cut away the grills that protect the fans as i noticed the improvement of airflow was huge just dont put ur feet near them. Its super loud so i attached all the fans to switches on the outside of the case so when i want to game i switch them on.
here is what it looks like, try not to laugh too much :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nGXviaxakE
