well, my friend was over last night, and we went out to my worktable, and drilled a hole in some plexi-glass for a 92mm fan. well, the hole cracked the plexi-glass terribly. what do all you guys use to drill in it. we were gonna then use a nibbler (just got one) to nibble the hole.

please help us!

Remember you need to make pilot holes for the actual isze bit your going to use.

As you found out plexi glass is very sensitive to drilling , so u need to find a very fine bit and make a pilot. ;)

As for makeing a fan whole , i recommend using a dremmel if you have a steady hand, if your lazzy like me , do it the easy way by getting a 80mm whole saw attachment for your drill!!!! You'll find it at any hardware store!!!

Also vey important note to n00bs!! Do not take off protective layer off the plexi glass until you absoulutly done with everything!!

Another trick to getting the plexi not to crack, it to tightly sandwitch it inbetween two pieces of wood, or if you have it, scrap plexi. Go slowly, if you try to drill too fast the biting edge of the bit will catch the opposite side of the plexi when it comes through, and ths is when you're probably cracking the plexi.

A hole-saw drill bit is definitely the easiest way to cut a fan hole. If you plan on doing any other mods the dremel is your best friend!

here is what i did. i drilled a small hole right in the middle of where i was going to make the whole. then i got a piece of metal that was a little longer than the radius of the circle, with two holes at each end. put a nail in the hole in my plexi and put the metal piece through it. the hole on the other end of the metal piece had the drill in it. then i drilled around the small hole, using the metal piece as a guide, like a compass. worked pretty good for me. used a dremel thing.

you pushed to hard.... iv done it too.... i just drilled my plexi waterblock and put 7 holes in it, one i used a wood hole saw and a drill press and i went VERY slow! and the others i just used 3/16in bit and a 3/8 bit... just went slow and it worked great for me....
im hopin to get me one of them 3" hole saws soon!

Another method of preventing the plexie from cracking and vibrating is by clamping it onto a piece of plywood to support it flat.

Here are some pixs. (http://www.ocmod.com/code/show_art.php?id=2&pg=4) showing you step by step on how to do it.
