I'm wondering if you guys could tell me more about the effects of Unlocking a CPU? I can overclock my XP1900 already with a simple utility. When I unlock it will I be able to overclock it more?
Hi Chrisjr,
I too own an XP1900+ (by the way what stepping is yours??) and before I unlocked the beast it would only run in the mid 1.7Ghz bracket. After unlocking the cpu I am now running at 1863 MHZ.
Good luck m8,
Paul.K
PS my stepping is AGNGA Y....Yours????

If anybody know of a utility that will overclock my Shuttle ak31 please let me know. Otherwise do you know where a good guide quick guide to overclocking is?

HELLP!!!
I have "Unlocked my 1900+ 4 times ....I must be missing something.
Here is my prob.
I enter the bios and set fsb to 133..
I then set the Multiplyer to 13.
The boot shows xp 2000+ but...
WCPUID shows that the multiplyer has kicked to 12.5
I've tried everything...
The best I can get is 160 FSB * 11... or
1760 MHZ
I will keep the higher FSB..but seeing the max miltiplyer get kicked to 12.5 makes me wonder if the chip is really unlocked..
If it's not unlocked..could that be keeping me from getting to 1800 MHZ??
In other words..If I stay with a high FSB...will unlocking give me multiplyers that I'll never use??
I've been using a de-fogger kit to unlock...
If it was really unlocked...wouldn't the 13 and 14 multiplyer be valid??
Thanks
Larry
as i understand it most motherboards will either give u 12.5 or 13 no higher that i know of...(anyone know better?) i know on my board i have a multipler selection i can chose named "12.5/13"
i would guess your 13 multiplier is the same way even if it dosent say so... not sure y its like that but it is so maybe someone else can explain better then me
EDIT: btw it does sound like u have it unlocked tho :)

How do you even change your clock multiplier??? I can't change it in my BIOS settings. Is there some program, or jumper??

well first of all u need to unlock the processors multiplier by connecting the L1 bridges with something conductive after that u should be able to change your multiplier either in the bios or thru jumpers/dip switches on the motherboard itself

ChrisJr:
Welcome to the forums. Many guides can be found on the overclockers front page, and a lot of topics are covered in these threads- just search for what you're looking for.
Unlocking an XP cpu requires a bit of technical skill and some tools. It's kinda difficult, but anyone can do it with a little patience and practice.
You have a 1900+ which is locked at a 12 multiplyer. 12x133= 1596 Mhz
Your overclocking utility probably raises the Front Side Bus, like so 12x145= 1740 Mhz
If you unlocked the multiplyer you may either be able to overclock higher, or overclock at the same speed, but get more stability.
Ex. 12.5x140= 1750 Mhz higher mult with lower FSB
or 11.5x150= 1725 Mhz lower mult with higher FSB
I suggest you get familiar with your bios settings. AK31? Try looking for a menu for frequency/voltage control in the bios. There you'll find FSB, vcore, and ddr voltage settings. Do a little reading and try using these instead of the utility you have now. Might be able to get your 1900+ higher. But keep your eye on the cpu temperature with a program like motherboard monitor 5.

Chris, if you have the AK31, you can change the FSB. Go into the bios, then select the option that says frequency and voltage selection. arrow down untill you get to the setting that says bus or fsb or something like that. Hit + to increase it from default. Then save and exit. You can keep doing this until the computer freezes. Then, you have to find the "Clear Cmos jumper on the motherboard, clear it, and reboot. Go to the bios again and select something a little lower than the one that caused the crash. Then , you should be good to go! Keep an eye on the temperature of the CPU, tho. Don't let it get too high. If it does, lower the bus speed.
Hope this helps.

press "delete" when you turn your computer on and enter the bios. In the menu for frequency/voltage control is the setting you seek. Changing the multiplyer here will do you no good however unless you've done some minor surgery on your cpu.
There are 5 L1 bridges on the cpu's surface. A laser has severed the elctrical connection between the contacts of all five bridges. Thus the circuits are broken and all multiplyers but the default have been locked. By filling the laser pits with something non-cunductive, then connecting the bridges with a conductive paint, all multiplyers are unlocked.
But, other settings in your bios will also help you overclock, without the need for delicate cpu surgery.
