Then cheer up mate,

download patch 1.2 for NFS: shift (you can patch from 1.0 without having to download 1.1) and see what i would like to describe as amazing

before 1.2

- bad performance
- frame skipping
- long loading times

After 1.2

- excellent performance/FPS jump (+50%/60%)!
- no frame skipping (game smooth as butter)
- acceptable loading times

All this using catalyst 9.11

Today AMD/ATI will release Catalyst 9.12 which according to the online benchmarks, will provide around 10% performance increase across most games and benchmark utilities

But one of the games that catalyst 9.12 is geared at is NFS: Shift so expect an even better performance/experience in it

I can't believe how this garbage turned into a great racing game for me with a single patch

Currently playing at 720P all settings maxed 4X AA FPS = 35-45

really? hm, shift ran really bad on my 4850 and my 23inch. I was really disappointed. Might download the patch. Ill see if it runs better :) Hope so, everyone says its a really good game. But, never ran that smooth on my system :(

Install the patch + the Catalyst 9.12 and NFS: shift will turn into the best race game you have,

I am saying this because i had your same problems even though the game is around the same graphical complexity of both dirt 2 and GRID but they both ran fantastic for me except for shift which was a pity since i saw potential in it

all i did was install patch 1.2 and it like a whole new game now, maxed with 4x AA @ 720P with an FPS between 45-35, fast loading times and thats on my HD3850, imagine what your HD4850 can do, i will later install the official 9.12 to increase the performance in this game even further even though its not really needed at this stage

yess! new drivers. =]
time to waste downloads.

i saw that cars in the 'garage' and 'car lot' load substantially quicker, the car image i mean, and the races to load a bit quicker as well.

i haven't checked FRAPS since updating, but i also felt fps was a little better. i could amp up a notch of AA without any noticeable lag.

they also updated some car physics, although i can't comment on this.
i think they got rid of some jumpyness for some cars...my S2k tended to bounce around a lot.
