Hi guys, I've just installed my brand new HD 5870 and I've downloaded the drivers from the AMD website, when I double click I can choose the language and click NEXT, then I have the option to INSTALL and UNNINSTALL, I click INSTALL and it closes, can you guys help me find out why the drivers are not being installed? I'm not getting a single error message, it just won't go...

Here is a video that shows it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SATTXVznn3g

Thank you.

Ps: I'm including a CPU-Z report of my system

Are you sure you downloaded the right version? Might try re-downloading it again..

Can you list all your hardware for us?

What video card were you previously running? Did you make sure to remove all the drivers?

Can you post your system specs?

What card were you previously using?

Might try downloading, and running this: http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-(Setup)-download-1655.html

If you have the disk, and you should, try to install the drivers from there.

Some have reported that by simply shutting the computer down, then restarting it, they were able to get them installed.

If you have new memory as well, it could be a bad stick.

Your card is probably fine though.

ok, so here is the solution that worked for me, I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits:

1. Open command prompt: start -> run -> "cmd" - ok

2. When you start an ATI driver installation the files are usually unpacked to "C:\ATI\Support\xxxxx", that's where we are browsing to, so just issue a "cd \" command to go to the root (C:\), then issue a "cd ATI" to enter the ATI folder, now issue a "cd Support" command, now issue a "dir" to list the directories on that folder, issue then a "cd xxxx" where "xxxx" is the folder with the lastest driver version located on that folder, if you have trouble typing the huge folder name just open Windows Explorer and rename that folder to something easier to input, you're now inside the driver folder.

3. If you have Windows 32 bits issue a "cd Bin" command, if you have 64 bits OS installed issue a "cd Bin64" command.

4. Now issue the last command, "ATISetup.exe -install -output SCREEN"

5. Watch as the driver gets installed, if you downloaded the full package it will install the Control Center as well.

I really hope this is going to help you guys as it helped me.

Take care,

Paul

I had the same problem with the ATI HotFix. Not any longer. I uninstalled the hotfix and the 9.12s and then re-installed the 9.12 drivers and all is good in kraggy~land.

do you have Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 installed? I know my Cat installer wouldn't run right until I installed that, it would fail to do something, i forget now. not the same as your error, but worth a shot.
