Hi macsout, welcome to the Forum,
are you sure that it's really a P///500Mhz (5x100Mhz) and not a 333Mhz (5x66Mhz) OCed using a Fsb@100Mhz?

it's stamped on the edge of the processor 500/100/512/2.0...i tried running it at 83fsb and it hasent crashed yet...........that makes it a 416........oh well i'll keep playing with it......no wonder it was so cheap............

Are you sure that isn't an heat prob? obviously supposing that the Mobo & the mem modules are right.

everything ran fine before when i was running my PII 350........i bought the PIII 500 used at a pc show and even tested it that it booted and ran at 500mhz..........it must be that after it heats up it flakes out...........maybe i could cool it better........it's been running fine for hours right now at 416mhz..........kinda wierd.....

Does your mobo have a temperature probe where you can get the temperature?

Does sound like heat to me too as the older P3 should do fine overclocking under the retail Intel fan.

How are you adjusting your settings?

Could be a dead or dieing CPU HS fan
