View Full Version : bong cooler installed...not impressed at all
Ok peeps I finally hooked up my bong cooler on the Tbird and well its cooling about 2c better then my sk6 with a 33cfm fan  !
Maze2 copper block 1/2in fittings
eheim 1250
19in tall 4in pvc bong tower
7ft of coiled copper using this for the "shower head"
The setup is as follows pump-block-bong-pump.
I double checked I have the block oriented correctly and its making good contact.
I touched the block and its warm , I stuck my hand in the water res. and it feels nice and warm almost warm enough for a shower  .
I was able to run toast and folding@home all nght @1.48 which is a little better then the sk6 but its not stable in Prime95 so it doesnt really matter.
Any ideas?

ya
Bong -> block -> ecetera
your bong should be below ambient or it ain't a bong yet
can you post a pic?
Do you have the scotchbrite pads in it like the article on the front page? Using the coil in place of a real shower would kindof depend on the pads for extra surface/cooling area. At least that's what I get from the article.
The wet pads would give alot more surface area to the falling water.
If your water is getting that warm then I suspect that the problem may be with the bong, your water should not be going over ambient. Can you tell us a little more about how your bong is setup? I am not an expert on bongs but many here are and should be able to help out.
OK inplace of the scotch bright pads I installed one of those bath/shower sponge deals here is a pic of one I found on the web. The main reason I put this in there was it virtually made the bong silent.
LOL...mine doesnt have the little duck on it though hehe.
Also I took it out of my shower so I'm thinking it may be putting diluted soap into my water could this make it run super warm?
I also put a little fin above the the outlet at the base of my bong to keep the pump from sucking in air bubbles but I doubt this would increase temps at all.
It has to be something though cause before the mods it worked really well on my duron.

Can you post a pic or a cutaway drawing. Somethings seriousy wrong with you bong if the water is warm.
Ok here is a quick drawling.
The line above the outlet is that fin I told you all about. The rest I hope is sef explanitory.

so it should go bong->pump->block->bong. Sorry as i said that wrong before.
do you have a fan in the bong? does it blow out of the bong or in. Can you feel the air moving by putting your hand over it?

No I took the fan off because it wasnt helping. When I had it installed I was getting major back pressure (there was hardly and air coming out the top of the bong) even with the 50cfm it was pushing into the bong the sponge doesnt like airflow expecially when its all packed full of water.

Try with the fan back on but blowing out. Or put it on top blowing down.
Lots of peps get better results with that 'specialy with the noise reducers.

That makes sence I've been working on another niose reducer that wiont restrict air so much.
I went ahead and threw the fan on top because I figured that would help the most considering it will cool the aqua and my 1.4 pound copper coil :) and so far the temps have dropped 6c and its only been a few minutes maybe 10.
I'm now surfing the net with my 1.2@1.42 and the temp just dropped to 35c.
