Two would be great but one should work fine if your talking about games like half life 2 counter strike etc but I dont think the newer games the cards would be enough.

You should be able to handle Source games just fine with one 8500GT, especially if it's one of the DDR3 versions.
I wouldn't bother with SLI, though... not with those cards. It's just not worth the hassle for the performance you'd get... you'd be better off picking up a used 8600GT/GTS.

If you can get it for next to free (say under $20) then why not. Just slot it in and connect the sli bridge, not much hassle at all. You can always disable sli if you run into problems through the drivers.

Any more free ones lol? I just had a 260 fail on me and a 8500 would be pretty cool untill a new one comes in lol.
I believe SLIed 8500GTs are still inferior to a single 8800GT.

^Yes they are, exspecialy if their the 64-bit DDR2 versions but for source games they should work fine.

they are 128 bit ddr2 cards. a little less powerful than my 9400. the 8500s should get ~3000 on 3dmark06 with trial settings.
