I'm looking to snag a 5770 or some 5 series soon. I am also looking at getting a 32 inch hdtv. Currently I have two monitors running via dvi. I am working towards getting my pc to become a theater system.
I understand that with eyefinity I can run three displays. However I learned that two of which have to be dvi/vga/hdmi and the third is DisplayPort. However I have yet to find a tv that has display port for inputs. So I looked up Displayport to hdmi.
I find a trillion adapaters but I keep getting told I need a powered adapter and that I can't find. I just keep finding MINI-displayport -> hdmi.
HELP!

Where are you being told that you need a powered adapter? I can't imagine it would need to be powered unless you're running more distance than the spec can handle. You should be safe with 30ft of cable or more without a powered adapter. I could be wrong though.

You absolutely need a powered adapter.
This has some good info:

As does this:

Very interesting... I don't see why they don't have 3 timing signal generators... Kind of an oversight I think...

Amazon sells one as does Dell. I believe they are $100 though.

i take it your monitors dont have a display port either? could always look for a 32" monitor with a display port as well as opposed to a tv. you can always purchase a tuner card for your pc if need be.

The price would kill me sadly. I can get an hdtv 32 inch with hdmi for 280-300 and with the adapater would put be at like 400.00. a monitor would be thousands :(
A lot of people are having success with these. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042801&p_id=5135&seq=1&format=2 If you have displays with different native resolutions you need to use it with whichever one has the highest resolution. However, your best bet is to get something with a display port built in, because at this point eyefinity is pretty flaky with adapters like that one above and the active ones also.
I am using Dell U2410s with native DP inputs, and the mini-DP to DP converter supplied with my new Sapphire 5970 cards, and I am still having problems making the mini-DP connected monitor work. It is black and white in fact! And when I try to engage eyefinity it just says not supported.
and if I try to use one monitor on the mini-dp port alone, I can see the bios and then the Windows 7 splash screen for a few secs (in color even!) and then before it gets to the Windows 7 log on screen everything just goes dark... any thoughts? Starting to suspect that it might be a Windows / mini DP problem?
I don't know anything about the mini dp adapters. Does it work if its connected by itself? I believe you will need to use the one on the dp as the primary display. Here (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=64&sid=4b30a1e83762f0c49d27bad88f1f7acb) is good place to find help.
No mini DP connection does not work if it is the only monitor connection. And when it is primary, it is black and white and does not play well with the other displays under CCC or in general.
Thanks for link, had been there before but not to the exact page you pointed me too, which appears to add a bit more to the story....
