I just installed win 2k pro and am very disappointed in my q3 performance. I have 2 installations of it, one is the original retail version, for benching. I get 98 fps in the quaver demo at high quality, 1024x768. The problem lies when I play the 1.31 point release multiplayer. I have cg_drawfps on and it usually reads somewhere in the 40-60 range, whereas on win98 it stayed up at 90 during play.
You may say, well 50 fps is still smooth.... but it isnt, not nearly as smooth as win98. Is there anything I can do to get better performance in 2000?? I tried lowering the resolution, but it didnt help, and I like playing at 1024..

I got crappy performance in Q3 in Win2k. Switching to XP fixed that. But mine was a Radeon driver problem, I don't know what vid card u have.

This is weird,

I completely uninstalled q3 and reinstalled it. Looked good, so I installed the 1.31 point release and rocket arena. Now the weird part..... RA has mp3s play during the game by default. When I started playing it, cg_drawfps 1 stayed around 90 fps, the same as before. I turned the music off, and thats when performance dropped..... So now I have it play the mp3s, just with the volume down and all is good. Its just so odd that it takes a performance hit with the music OFF.....
