hmm half life doesnt install when i install

well its pretty odd, i formatted my hard drive then wanted to play half life so i just pop the cd in and install it. then before i play it i was going to update my cs and hl files and i just cant get hl to update to 1.1.0.8. i keep getting a message of "you must install to the half life folder" or something close, so i try a couple other folders and stuff all the while seeing that the default folder is desktop/FAIL. so then i look into this and see whats wrong with the folder of sierra. so far there is nothing wrong then i open that folder up and all is as it used to be. then i decide to open up the half life folder and all i find is the dll for the uninstall. so i delete all of half life and try again. same thing.

ive heard a little talk about gremlins so maybe ive got some?

I had a similar problem where I couldn't install the updates because I installed one of the updates out of sequence.
So it was trying to extract a file or 3 to a folder that hadn't been created yet, that should have been created in an earlier update that I hadn't installed yet.

Confused??...I am!

no you see its not the updates its the entire game. it goes through the whole install cycle then nothing comes up when its done.
