I have always been a wired guy so im not current @ all in all the ins and outs .
I recently got a ipod touch so for the first time got a wifi router . The asus wl-520gu first time up installed DD-wrt and and tweaked the tx power to 250mw and can now get signal half a block away .
I have been given a linksys wrt54g ( can install DD-wrt ) I want this down stairs and then from that wired to a device.
Where would I start ?

so you have your asus upstairs hooked to your modem ..and you want to hard wire from upstairs to downstairs too ? or just have it as a repeater and hard wire into it from there ?

down stairs will just be the router suplying cat5 to a device
It would be in the basement as client bridge. Configure the same SSID and encryption key (WPA, WEP, etc) as the wireless next to the cable modem. Use different channel as other AP (1,6, or 11) if using G or B. Or use as repeater bridge using the same channel as used on other AP.

Yep, repeater bridge mode is what you want. DD-WRT has that mode built-in if your router's version supports that.
