beeping

well when i start up the computer, i get one long beep, when its showing the bios screen, and the installed hardware....(the screen right after when it tells what video card you have installed).....and it beep, one long time, and then it starts normally

also, i cant get this thing to boot from the floppy disk....i dunno whats up. i set the floppy as the first boot device....and still no luck...what can i do

ive had the computer for about 5 months, and the old motherboard fried, so i got the new one yesterday, same board and everything, and last night, it didnt beep, but today it does....what could cause it to beep one long time, then boot normally?

About how long is the beep? Is it a long beep or a REALLY long beep? 1 beep at start up is normal (depending on your BIOS).

I agree, some bios are set to beep once it detects the cpu and is booting.

the beep is alot longer than it used to be, and wed night, when i put it together, it only beeped one short time...sooo

My first thought is something is not seated properly. If it has 2 DIMMs I would look at one of them first. Since it boots I don't think it could be processor or video card. Look in setup and see how much memory it says you have. Most mobo makers have a list of beep codes on their website. What BIOS is it? I know it is not Phoenix, they have 3 beeps in the codes.

here is the question!!! WHAT DO THE DIFFERENT STARTUP BEEPS MEAN???? i know it has been on here before, but i cant find the post, so if you please, someone who KNOWS what the beeps mean, please help out

The beep codes mean different things depending on the BIOS. I have a 3 page list of Phoenix codes for Dell computers in my desk at work.

What motherboard and BIOS do you have?

They weren't asking what BIOS revision you have. They wanted to know which actual BIOS it is (AMI, Award, etc). Here (http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm) is a link that may be useful.

alright, all of these links, none of them say anything about ONE LONG BEEP..THATS ALL. just one long beep. i dont have any other ddr memory to test, so i cant really do that......yes it is ami bios.

the beep is about 1 second long.

also, is there a mini speaker on the motherboard, cause i took out the pc speaker...cause i dont like it.....

I have very little experience with different beeps, but on my Iwill board the short beep is about one second. The long beep is about twice as long.

Regarding the second question above about the floppy, are you sure you enabled it or selected the right type in the Standard CMOS Setup? An upside down cable usually bites me in the ass when putting in floppy drives, too.

well my short beep is about 1/2 a second long.....

i know someone once put a list of all the different beeps on here...i looked around the other day, but i had zero luck....does anyone remember the post about this, some guy's computer wasnt booting, but it was beeping, and some dude told what the diff. beeps meant
