Those of you still using fans might be interested in this item (http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=DIGDOC5) at Computer Geeks. It's essentially a fan bus that allows up to 7 fans (plus one already built in) to be connected and RPM monitored. It also has 8 temperature sensors that can be used to control that on/off state of the associated fan. Street price on this looks to normally run about $50, so $36 isn't a bad deal. While I have no personal experience with this item, I checked out a number of reviews and they seemed mostly positive. If you want push button control of your fans and don't want to build your own fan bus and switch bank, this might be a good option.

Yes, I have one and I love it. If you add on a few relays, it turns into an auto fan bus. It's awesome to have your CPU fan change from 7v to 12v on it's own when temps start to go up. Along with ever other fan in the case. I also like the 5v and 12v rail monitors, that's a big plus in my book.

The relay thing is a really good idea. I was thinking of doing something like that with the really big Comair/Rotron fan I have. It pulls too much power for the DigitalDoc to handle, but I figured a SPDT relay would allow me to automatically switch between half speed and full speed.

I have two relays hooked up to mine. One for my CPU fan, and one for my 120mm Delta. I actually used 2 sensor for the Delta to create a 3rd option. So now it changes from Off, 7v, and 12v according to temp. :D
Hey im an old school poster (back when the forum was still gray) and wanna know if you have any specifics on those relays. Thjat sounds liek a cool idea... adn i dont liek the cycle on off fan thing (happens too often) thansk a lot!

I have a DIGITAL DOC 5 and love everything except that stupid little beeper that drives me crazy. where is my 357 magnum? Ill fix it. LOL
I do have a question. The temps in bios are considerable lower than what I get with the DD5. Several degrees in fact. Have any of you seen this trait in the DD5?
Oh well, I still like it.

Hey im an old school poster (back when the forum was still gray) You mean it's NOT still gray? Mine is. If you know of some way to change it I'd sure like to hear about it. Black on gray is not my idea of easy reading.
wanna know if you have any specifics on those relays.I don't think you need anything fancy. Most any SPDT relay with a 12v coil should work fine. If you're going to run a power hog of a fan, like I am, then you need to be sure the contacts can handle the load. With normal fans you shouldn't have to worry about it. If you want some cheap ones check BG Micro (http://www.bgmicro.com) or MPJA (http://www.mpja.com). If you want them quick then you should be able to find something suitable at Radio Shack.
This forum still has black in it..... im talking about the light gray like overclcokers.com. It was exactly like that, but with a weird forum installed (about 1.5 years ago)
I use DPDT relay for my pump. By what i know, i see the pump turn on.... only when 12v coil has juice to it. I was wondering how he has the fans running @ 7v(or 5v) all the time... yet has a relay to knock it up to 12v (i understadn the coil charge comes from the digidoc) I just need a lil enlightenment
Thanks

I remember the gray forums... they were replaced in Dec of 2000.... I first started coming around in sept of 2000.... back when I was a little young'un and all I had was a pathetic K62 500 and a Stealth3 S540 and I was looking for better framerates in UT so I could beat my friend who had a Slot A Athlon 600.... ahh, those were the days.

I was wondering how he has the fans running @ 7v(or 5v) all the time... yet has a relay to knock it up to 12v It's my understanding a double throw switch or relay allows creation of two circuits and switches a single contact between those two circuits. Aside from the coil contacts, the relay should have three contacts, one of which is always part of the resulting circuit. The live circuit switches between the remaining two contacts. (The DPDT relay you mention should have two sets of three contacts, the second set of three being for the other "pole".) So, in this instance, you'd wire the always-active contact to the fan's or pump's hot lead and put a 7v source on one of the remaining contacts and a 12v source on the other. You'd want the 7v on the contact which completes the circuit when the relay coil in not energized. Wired like this, when the coil is not energized the circuit would be at 7v. When the coil is energized the circuit would go to 12v.

yea the temp readings are higher since the probe is closer to the core than the one on the mobo. So it will always will give a higher reading.. :D And for the beeping, u know u can set the temp before it starts beeping.
Thanks for the info on the relay. As for removing the beeping noise, the only wayi think you can remove it is set temps higher (so when the fan is turned on, it stays on a little, thus making the temp probe about 1c cooler) but that kinda defeats teh purpose for having the fans in the first place. Mine usedto go BEEEEP every minuteand it does get very anyoying.
