Hello,

Firstly, I am new to overclocking, so apologies for my silly newbie questions before we begin. my aim is to overclock my athlon thunderbird 1.4ghz 266 fsb ayhja to 1.53.. can somone please give me a STEP by STEP guide on how to do this please? Please dont say "start by reading the newbie guides" .. etc, as i am not interested into getting into overclocking in general, i just want to overclock this particular cpu, and that's it.

so, i assume these cpu's are unlocked already? so what's the next step, ..go into bios? :-P

other issues are:
1. am i likely to be ok with my existing fan? (i will monitor the cpu temp in bios, i assume anything under 50 degrees C is ok?
2. will any of my hardware be affected? (i have pc133 memory, i dont know how good quality it is). i think i read somewhere about overclocking without affecting my other hardware..?

also, please note that i take full responsibility for my actions and would not dare moan at anyone if my cpu was fried due to my newbie overclocking..

thanks,

Ollie

Hi & Welcome to the forums!!!

Now for a step by step guide u can find in the begginers guides on the front page u'll find link to it...

We'll need to know lots about ur system, as like for the HSF (heatsinkfan), PSU, motherboard, memory and other stuff. u should make a sig, similar to what I have or in any other dezign u want. good luck

Hi The Coolest, Thanks for replying.. I guess I was kind of hoping overclocking would be easy and hassle free but I guess there is a lot too it perhaps! :-] i actually am using an old ISA soundbalster 16 soundcard (which i NEED to use for something i am working on) so i cant remove that, perhaps that alone will cause problems regarding overclocking? i have pc133 sdram and a voodoo3 3000 agp 16mb video card, as well as a kinetiz-7e motherboard.

ps. do you think a standard heatsink and fan with my t-bird 1.4 is going to be useless if overclocking to 1.53.. you need something special instead perhaps? .. please dont say water :-P

I'm not familiar w/ u mobo, but I can say for sure that u'll need a better HSF to OC that thing. the 1.4 are generaly run a lil hoter than the slower ones also... U can get lot of good performance HSFs like the SK-6 w/ Delta 38 (very noisy) or a millenium Glaciator II or G-Lite (quiet and good performance) the Stock stuff are crap. I have to use one cause I'm planing on going to water as soon as I can get a water block... I'm not sure about the sound card u have cause I don't have any ISA slots on my mobo, and that's why I've a bought a Creative SB Vibra, but other than that I think u'r set.

BTW: What r ur temps?

Hey, I really dont think processor speed is your problem. I think you need to invest more time and money into a new video card and soundcard.....And bye the way....What motherboard out there supports isa slots and a Thunderbird 1.4...Seems to me that if your board still has ISA slots on it, it will NO WAY be able to be overclocked, actually I dont even see how its handeling a 1.4 ghz processor.
Good Luck though
