View Full Version : Can You Help With This GForce MX400 Problem?

I just assembled a new AMD 1.0 ghz T-bird system on a Soyo motherboard. Things seem to be running fine, with a couple of exceptions:

The video card does not seem to run some of my games correctly. All I get are blocky white and gray images. The card's drivers are installed, as are the via 4 in 1 drivers that came with the moboard. When installing the drivers, it gave me the options of WHQL an non-WHQL. I used WHQL, but honestly do not know the difference. The card is a Visiontek Xtasy Gforce2 MX400 64mb AGP unit. Any ideas? Some of the games run fine, but some don't.

Other issues, if you can help:

Also, my CD-ROM is a Memorex 48x. The manual says to let Windows auto detect it and load the best drivers. It works alright, but the whole system comes to a screeching halt when the CD-ROM is running. I have it set as the master on IDE2, with a CD-RW as the slave on that chain and my Hard Drive set as master in IDE1. I have to believe something is amiss, as this didn't happen to this extent even on my P233.

Also, just a minor annoyance, but the system beeps once VERY loudly when it first shows the bios screen and is booting up. I know the beeping is normal, but is there anyway to turn down the volume?

Thanks for your help!

weird, I got the same black/grey images when running 3DMark2k1 on my laptop with a Rage 128 Graphics Card. I suppose that was because that card don't support Texture&Lightning but your card should manage that without a problem. If you meant Geforce2MX400? Try downloading the 23.11 drivers from the Nvidia website.

also, be sure to have DirectX 8.1 installed

Marto I run the exact same card and found that after downloading DirectX 8.1 and the newer 23.11 drivers all my games were running perfect. Give it a try it'll probably help.

I have the exact same card, Xtasy 5564 AGP GeForce2 MX 400, and all my games, programs, 3dMark2001 runs fine with no graphics errors at all.

I use the Detonator 23.12, and I am on Windows 2000 SP2

check if you dont have the fog table disabled. u have to enable this in the driver properties intto your display advanced properties.
about the cd-rom, check if you dont have the dma option enabled in your cd-rom driver properties. what os r you using?

Hey! Thanks for all the assistance, everyone! I will take your suggestions and give it a whirl!

I am running Win 98SE as my OS, by the way.

I had a Soyo SY-K7VTA-B that had onboard sound, and the boot up beep came through the main speakers, rather than the little case speaker. It was very loud that way, and annoying. I solved it by installing a separate sound card. It also had much better sound.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I downloaded DirectX 8.1, the newest VIA 4 in 1 driver, the newest Nvidia drivers, and everything is working like a charm! Actually, some of my games run almost TOO fast now... such as Rogue Spear! But, I guess that's what I get for giving up my 4mb ATI Rage+ card and 233mx classic pentium for a 1.0Ghz T-bird with Gforce2 MX400 card!
