I am just about ready to bite the bullet and buy a 1.8 Gig Northwood and an Abit TH7II mobo. Of course I intend to overclock it to 2.4 gig (100 to 133 MHz). This brings me to the question of memory.

Mushkin, a trusted brand that always did me well, wants $149 for each 256mb module (Total $298 for 512mb). Googlegear and Newegg sell Kingston for $89 per 256mb module (Total $188 for 512mb). That is one big difference in price!

I do not doubt that the Mushkin is better memory but does being "better" matter if the Kingston works? I am looking for opinions as I certainly will spend the addition $110 if there is a good reason to do so.

I am assuming that you are talking about DDR RAM. If so, I would head over to www.crucial.com and pick up some of their RAM. It is VERY high quality, and they have free 2 day shipping!

Thanks for the reply. I will check out the Crucial site. The Abit TH7II mobo is based on the 850 chipset so it uses RAMBUS (aka RDDRAM).

Go with the crucial. I love my Mushkin but for that much difference in price its not worth it.

Crucial dosen't sell rddram.

Since you probably won't be hitting high fsb's it really isn't important as to what brand so much.
Samsung is also supposed to make good rambus.
