both the 8045 and the 462 comes with delta screamers.. and noise is an issue. so how much would the performance drop if i replace the 68.5cfm/48.5dba fan with maybe a panaflo or a sunon 39cfm fan?

thanks for the help in advance.

check out the front page where it says click here for heatsink performance ratings the have a swifty with a 33cfm fan

The Delta Focused Flow fans offer more than just a lot of cfm. The static vanes in them help de-spiral the air coming out and drive it in a straight line down into the heatsink. Go with the 68cfm Delta FFB0812SHE, but turn down the speed. A focused flow fan at say, 45cfm will outperform a non-focused flow fan at 45cfm any day.

Unless I'm looking in the wrong spot, the "33cfm Swifty" is a MCX370, not a MCX462. The 370 a smaller HS & the performance of a 462 w/ a 33, or 39cfm, fan will not be the same as the 370.

I have been thinking about changing the stock fan with the same 39cfm Sunon myself, but from the info I've been gathering it looks like a processor with the 462+39cfm fan will operate anywhere from 4-10 degres hotter than the 462+stock fan. I guess the only way to be sure is to try it.

If you do try it, post your results. I'd be interested to see the outcome.

I have the MCX462 and have changed fans many times! If you use a 39 cfm fan you will run at @ 45C at idle. I have been using a 50cfm Sunon and get temps of @ 35-40 C idle depending on ambient. With this fan the diff between ambient and cpu temp is @ 13C. With a 40 CFM I imagine it would be @ 16-17C diff at idle. With my 80cfm Delta hair dryer I idle at 30-32C and load at 34-37C. I think the alpha 8045 would do better with a lower speed fan than the Swifty. Hope this helps.

hmm. so it pretty much sucks without stock delta. so how would i turn it down from 68cfm to 45?

+7v trick:
Instead of connecting the negative of the fan to the ground, put it to the red +5v wire....yielding a potential of 7 volts and slowing down the fan a bit.

A high power rheostat or voltage regulator would work but both of course require components....this does not.

Is the MCXC-370 anygood?

You're also not overclocked.

i went from 1.13 to 1.333 on a 9 t-bird at 1.80 vcore even though monitor reads 1.85 and i idle around 38 and load at 41 to 42 depending on system temp im also planing on adding a 120 mm fan to the system to see how that does..

my new 8045 with the sunon is waaay quieter than my old sk6 with the ys-tech. and temps are also lower too.. :D

so the PAL can take quieter fans and still perform good but not the MCX462. but the thing is. the box that i would move the most has a epox 8kha+ on it. anyone ever fitted a PAL on it?

yea the alpha should fit on most of the new mobos now. checkout the list (http://www.alphanovatech.com/mb_inf_pal8045e.html)

yeah that list has most of the motberboards not all.. but it should fit on almost all of them i have a kk266plus r and the only prob was that my heatsink and fan that came on my via chip was geting in the way so i took it off put the HSF on and then put the hsf back on my via chip at a slaint i was worryed the hsf was not making good contact with the core though cause i thought maybe the hsf on the via chip was holding it up but after some carfull lookingsaw that it was touching the core and it works fine now.. for 43 bucks u really cant beat it.

Heres a good site to get it from. I have purchased from them before and haven't been let down. This is the link to the Alpha 8045 set-up for $29.98+cost for fan+grill for fan, the high end total is $37 for the best they have. Great deal for this HS if you ask me! Thanks to HOOT for suggesting this site a while back. Hope this helps. :)

Simply add a rheostat in the +12V line. You can get 12.5W 35 ohm rheostats for $6.00 shipped. One will handle that 68cfm Delta just fine. With a rheostat, you can reach over and turn down the speed (noise) when you are surfing or doing emails and turn it up when you need the extra umph. PM me for more details if you want one.

I have an 8045 and a MC462 both with Mechatronics 53cfm fans. One is on an XP1500 at 10x150, the other on an XP1500 at 11x137.5

At 12v, the two perform side-by-side but that's too noisy for me. At 7v the 8045 is 3C cooler than the Swiftech.

BTW, both of these are on K7S5A and overclocking is not that hard.

The one at 10x150 is at default voltage using the ocwokbench overclocking BIOS and DDR.

The one at 11x137.5 is at default voltage using the ocworkbench BIOS and SDR. Multiplier changed through deliberately shorting the L1s.

MikeTimbers, you are one of the first people that I've seen that has said it is not at least a little more than the normal trouble to OC the K7S5A. I have looked into it and would like to, but I have a hard enough time getting my G/F to say OK for a new video card! As soon as I can possibly afford to buy new stuff incase I screw-up (better safe than sorry for me), I will go ahead and do it. For right now I just bought a 120mm Sunon KD1212PMB3 to put on my HS so I'll have more than enough air flow to OC. :)
