currently, both my systems have a glaciator 2 on it. and i fear it would break the ZIF, crush the cpu and it bouncing around in my case when i go to college this coming fall. i will be transporting my boxes back and forth. so i fear it even more. i know that the glaciator 2 is very heavy and it might rip off the ZIF, so if i change them into a MCX462/PAL8045.. would the risk of it crushing my CPU far lesser than the glaciator2? thanks in advance. :)

Instead of replacing the glaciator for shipment, just remove and re-install it when you get to where you're going...

I took a glaciator to college... I wouldnt transport it on the processor though, I understand your fear, it is really heavy. Just take it off for the trip.

yeh. i was thinking of removing before each trip.. but its too much of a hassle. 2 box. arctic silver on each time.. plus i got some cash to spend :) so transporting a 8045/462 should be safe right?

If you mount them properly, yes.

i have made 2 1200 mile trips with the HS on the chip the whole way, just lay it on its side so teh bouncing up and down in noit putting a downforce onteh ZIF socket

that was what i was thinking. placing it on its side. will it crack the cpu though ?
