I know I'm way behind the times here, but I currently have an Abit BP6 running dual Celeron 366@550. I was poking around on a computer salvage site and noticed they still had some new 500MHz Celerons for what looked like a pretty reasonable price. What would be my chances at O/C'ing the 500's to 750? Assuming it would work, would it be worth $70 to upgrade from dual 550's to dual 750's?
The 500 celeron's core could only reach 600 mhz on the best stepping, which is why that core was dumped in favor of the coppermines... in short, no, 750 will not happen.
If you look at the database most people are only getting 600 - 630 (although someone got 866  ) on the BP6 so the performance increase would be negligible.

Thanks. I guess I'll stick with what I have now.
Unless you were to find a Celeron II 533 then yes 700mhz would be in the books :)

I know that nobody here will probably believe me, but I did have a 500 that did run @ 750. That was the only OC that I could get. It wouldnt even boot up at any other fsb setting except the stock 66 and the 100 fsb. At 100fsb@750mhz it ran there just fine. I wish that I had the sandra to prove it to you but I sold the rig and dont have any but my word. Gl and the 500 wasnt a bad processor by itself. By the way, the 500 celly that I did that with was out of an emachines and OC'ed in a Soyo board.
I should be receiving a used Celly 500 next week. I'll let ya know how high I can get it and still be stable...I don't have a BP6 though.
