AOL uses a non-standard protocol for it's itnernet, unlike most normal ISPs which use TCP/IP. TO share this, I think you would need a special program like Wingate which supports AOL connections.

AOL6.0 sets up a vpn between you and their server. look at network in control panel and you will see some or all of the following.

AOL Adapter
Dial-up adapter
Dial-up Adapter #2 vpn support
NDIS wan miniport driver

I've used ICS with AOL 6.0 on dialup across a network. It worked but is was slow.

Aol works fine with a lan. There isn't anything you need to change. Just set it up with TCP/IP.

okay heres what i dont understand then

i set cpu#1 to 192.168.0.1

and set cpu#2 to 192.168.0.2
with a gateway of cpu#1

but when i play delta force or something it tells me that the cpu#1's ip addres is some crazy 169.152.101.152 or something like that i ( ill look it up again later)

and when i chech it out on cpu#1 its still 0.1

so just for S&G i set the gateway to 169.152.101.152 and it stilllllllllllllll doesnt work

wtf

your help is much much much apreshated by the way ive been workign on this for a couple weeks now

Ok, I take you are using ICS to share the internet.

Set the second pc to automaticly get the ip address, don't assign it one, and see if that helps. Also don't put the gateway in.

The reason that you are getting the ip address is because that is the WAN IP address.

The computers on a network have their own ip adresses in the network but they are actually all on 1 ip adress which is different from the network ip ex. 192.168.0.1 etc. Check in your gateway and if you are using static ip it will tell u the ip or if you are using dynamic you can see it also but it keeps changing.

witch conection are you trying to share. a picture of your network configuration window might be nice and a diagram of the physical setup would help as well

Just wondering, can you access any sites from machine 2? I had a problem on my network until last night with the main machine able to access anything, but the client machines couldn't get certain sites. If that's the problem (or something similar), post again and I'll point you toward the solution. Hope you don't mind registry editing. :)

It seems a lot like my problem. I found out that the MTU setting wasn't right on the clients so communications through the hub were screwy (also only a 10Mb hub). This page (http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article04-107) shows what to do for PPPoE. I'm unsure what connection type you have or which OS. Check that out and see if it helps, though. Requires reg editting.

BUT... what it says to do wasn't exactly right for WinME here. The reg key wasn't where that page says. It was in ...\NetTrans instead of ...\Net. And it wouldn't allow me to set a decimal value the way it says, so I used the step for Win2K there (DWORD value) and it worked fine. I've had no problem accessing anything on the client since I made that change.

winproxy 4, i think works perfect with aol, i set it up for someone.

either have aol going on the system with winproxy and others can use it or have winproxy going on 1 computer connected to the net and aol on the other connected via lan
