Isn't Gas Powered Games partenered with Impulse/Stardock? Or perhaps they are one and the same?
Extremely weird move, but then again... Money is good no matter from which hands it is coming from.

Yeh I didn't like Impulse...It was just awkward.
I think with a move onto steam, it should boost the online community. I remember in SC1, there was only like 20-30 people online at a time. It was kinda crappy :shrug:

Not true in my experience, that number has been more like a couple of hundred whenever I have been on. NAT issues can mean that you don't see everyone, which is where the real problem is. It would be good if it uses steam, there would be no NAT issues then, but I doubt it will as GPGNet is for more than just Supcom now.

I hope this version goes back to the Total Annihilation roots. I didn't like the level of micromanagement needed Supreme Commander. I was playing it for a while, and then I realized that I felt like I should be getting paid. It felt like work.
I thought Supreme Commander was a little more overly complicated as well. Total Annihilation was much better.

Still manages to nearly peak at slightly under 1k users now, apparently.
As for Impulse, that was with Demigod.
As for Impulse as a distribution, it seems fine with me, especially since it's generally more lax than Steam (aka a working offline mode aka it doesn't even need to be running) and has useful features (eg can reject updates, which would have been useful with certain games where updates screw up the game for some people...*cough* Empire TW)

Really? It was difficult to get used to at first but it enables you to do more than you could in TA (such as coordinated attacks) so it's worth it IMO. I also like the fact that you can save/gain energy and mass with adjacency bonuses yet it means your structures are more vulnerable to chain reactions. Stuff like that makes even base building something you have to think about which you didn't have to in TA. So it adds another level to the strategy, which is nice.
Yes it's a steep learning curve but once you get going it's great. The economy in Supcom 2 is simplified and apparently adjacency bonuses are gone, a shame but hopefully they have added more depth in other areas. The research/upgrade system seems interesting but I hope it's not crap like SC.
Saying that the best thing is to play Forged Alliance with 2x resources on. That way you don't have to be so accurate with resource building and enables faster moving, more frantic games.
See that's what I didn't like the most, those adjacency bonuses. It made a large and tedious mess.

Only if you don't know how to use it. Steep learning curve sure but it's easy once you get going.
It wasn't hard to understand, just took a lot of time.

Agreed w/Hardin here. For almost everything, adjacency bonuses were worthless. The only thing not worthless were mass storage around T2+ mexes.
Sure, you could template that, but that doesn't stop it from being an annoyance. Especially since it's something that you will do regardless of the situation. It's always optimal to go T1->T2->Storage->T3.

If you can't hack it, you can't hack it. Plenty of people can do it. Don't say it's broken just because you can't do it.
