Ok so I just changed the hardware on my server. I guess its best to let you all know that I did this without reinstalling (running WHS). Now everything works great. I can get on the internet download and upload my ftp is running fine. I see no driver conflicts anywhere. For some reason though I cannot ping a local host from the server. Make things easier
Server: 192.168.1.21
Localhost: 192.168.1.25

so i can ping from the local host computer and from the server 192.168.1.21, 127.0.0.1, 192.168.1.1 but from the server i cannot ping the localhost 192.168.1.25. Now i can ping the localhost from the localhost computer without problem and it can ping the server without a problem. The server will not ping the localhost or any external ip. Any ideas this is driving me crazy. :bang head:  Thanks in advance.
Mike

Is this server a local server IE, one setup in your home?
If so is this server on a different router/switch/network/subnet?
Is there any port forwarding issues and or wan intercept issues?

These questions beg answers my friend, but im here to help as best I can :D

Why not post your results here so that when people search with an issue like yours they find your solution. It may fix their issue too.

My guess is that it was either an ARP issue (i.e. wrong mac address to IP address table mapping on the machine that couldnt ping) or, the subnet mask was incorrectly entered or something to that effect.

turned out to be a driver issue. had drivers conflicting with one another causing dns errors.

Thats a strange one! Thanks for posting. If I ever see this happen, I will know to may be investigate drivers! Glad you're sorted :D
