4-8 gbs slowed down

Hi all,

I need help tweaking or fixing my memory.I recently added 4 more gigs to my MB filling all the slots (4 2gb modules). They are all the same and it has slowed my pc down. The timings were set to 5-5-5-15 for the first 2 modules when I originally installed them and I did not do any timings for the second set. I do not know if I have to make any timing adjustments for the 2 new sets that I recently added and I am assuming that if the first 2 were set then so will the second set but I maybe wrong. I notice the slow down when I am gaming and or using PS CS4 64bit or 32bit. Here is a pic of Everest showing my current configuration and see my sig for syst info..

Your RAM is currently running at DDR2-1066MHz, which at a default FSB of 333MHz results in a NB / MCH strap of 333/1066; 3:5 FSB : DRAM ratio. The closest you can get to the rated 1200MHz at a 333MHz FSB is 1110MHz, that by changing the strap to 200/667; 3:5 ratio. If you were raise the FSB to say 400MHz x 8 = 3.2 (easily achievable w/ a Q9450), you could hit 1200MHz by running a 2:3 FSB : DRAM ratio; 266/800 strap. It sounds like you really know what your talking about and just the person to help with the question I have about my system. but your answer to him really lost me! I kinda understand that my Q6600 is quad pumped meaning 266x4=the 1066 FSB, ?QDR? or something, and that the 1066 RAM I have is really a 533 FSB, now I have my system clocked to 3.4ghz with a cpu fsb of 1512 I am just wondering where the optimal settings for the RAM would lie, do I underclock RAM and try to run 1:1 with tighter timings or keep it 1066 w/ stock 5-5-5-15 timings, and where should I try to have the CPU : DRAM ratio set to ??? I am a little lost there,

I would like to hit 1600 cpu FSB if I can get things worked out, then would i underclock the RAM to 800? please shed some light on this for me

I have not made any changes and can see that the dram in Everest says it is running @ ddr2 1066MHz and this how my BIOS is set. The only change that I made was the DRAM Voltage which was set to 2.0 and I changed it to 2.1.

I'm not sure I understand what the problem is. At your current FSB of 392MHz (392 x 8 = 3136MHz / 3.13GHz), running on a 5:8 divider (333 MCH strap, using the 3.20B memory multiplier), the RAM is currently running at 1254MHz (~625MHz x 2 as shown in MemSet, ~624MHz x 2 as shown in CPU-Z); 5-5-5-15-2T.

At your current FSB of 378MHz, and since you're still in the process of finding the max. clock speed, leave the RAM underclocked at 907 - 945MHz (5:6 - 4:5 FSB : DRAM ratio respectfully). If you settle on a FSB of 400MHz (400 x 9 = 3.6GHz), keep the ratio at 4:5 for an effective 1000MHz DRAM frequency; w/ possibly tighter timings. You'd be better off w/ a higher FSB of 450MHz, and the lower 8x multiplier (450 x 8 = 3.6GHz), running a 5:6 ratio; 333/800 MCH strap for an effective 1080MHz DRAM frequency at 5-5-5-15.

Ok, so I guess this is good? I did not change any timings here. All I did was up CPU FSB to 3.13Mhz and is the highest I can go. I tried 400MHz but system will not boot into Win 7. I understand that with increasing CPU FSB, MEM will increase as well (I think). Also, what other memory tweaks can be done in order to increase speed for paging files, and, does my VC GPU use RAM as the CPU does?
