View Full Version : My video card or psu?
I have an BFG 9600GT OC. I've only had it for about 2-3 weeks for my build in my signature. When I was using the onboard gpu I can play games at low settings and the computer wont shut off. But after I put in the 9600GT I cant play COD MWF2 for more than 30 minutes or so then it makes a constant noise from the game then just shuts off. Well the computer doesnt shut off but the monitor's led light just goes from blue to orangish yellow and just stays like that till I restart. I thought it was my cpu, I reset my bios to everything back to factory settings and problem still occurs. Is my GPU not getting enough juice from my psu? It is only a $17.99 psu. With the 2x12+v rails I thought it'd do fine. Or is it a faulty gpu?
I can play lower games forever though, such as warrock, need for speed shift.
Im guessing some games draws more juice and power than other games?

Get a better psu :-)
It's the best thing you can do for your system.
I doubt it provides enough clean amperage. Hopefully the card isn't damaged.
Hmmmm. I probably might do so.

It could be the psu, but it can be the gfx card my 8800gt is doing the same thing and I have a psu that is rated nearly 2-3x more than it needs for juice.

Aww man, that sucks. I dont wanna waste more for a new gpu :*(

Thats a weak PS... Buy something with a name attached to it... Like Corsair (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005&cm_re=Corsair-_-17-139-005-_-Product)! <- this will keep you satisfied for awhile!
Pick your price point! (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=%2040000058&Description=Corsair&bop=And&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&ActiveSearchResult=True&CompareItemList=N82E16817139008%2CN82E16817139003% 2CN82E16817139004%2CN82E16817139005%2CN82E16817139 006%2CN82E16817139012%2CN82E16817139009)
That 400w has a nice beefy 12v RAIL... 30 AMPS!
I still need help.
The monitor turns off, but i can still hear the sounds from the game but laggy sounds.

It is only a $17.99 psu.
That is your problem. Your PSU is the life of your computer, and is the last thing that you should cheap out on. I would recommend looking into something that will have more amps on the 12V rail, like a Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, and so on. Your system and your GPU will thank you for it with much better performance.
Yeah, getting a new PSU. Because when I take the 6 pin connector out it does fine because it doesnt use that much of energy.
I have the same thing happening. I had to remove the card all together. I'm running two hard drives only... no cd/dvd drive on my work system. 420W supply.
Funny thing is -> my work computer WAS my old home computer... and I used the same setup at home... same power supply and everything.
Only thing that has changed since then was I upgraded my NVIDIA DRIVERS I think and more importantly, Im now using an LG Flatron L1511SK monitor.
Either way, I took out the 9600 GT now instead of at work I use it on my high end home PC as a physx card.
I googled everything and could not solve the problem. i did not try another PSU as it was working for months before.
