I want to buy two unregistrated 512MB simms for my new 760MPX board. Can't do with 4 * 256MB simms because I would need registrated and buffered simms to work in a 760MPX board, and registrated and buffered memory limits overclockability.

I probably want to overclock till 155mhz fsb, probably the absolute maximum of a 760MPX board, with all memorytimings (cas and other) to the maximum. So I don't need super expensive memory that can reach 183mhz. My first choise would be Crucial 512mb simms but are they as good as the 256mb simms? Above that they are expensive at $161! At pricewatch.com a found following 512MB prices of brand suppliers:
Mushkin! 512mb PC2100 Basic DDR SDRAM $113
Mitsubishi 512MB DDR PC266 NonEcc 64X64 CL.2.5 DIMM PC2100 $114
Micron Technology Micron PC2100 266MHz 512MB DDR Memory $125
Samsung SAMSUNG PRICE FOR ONLINE ORDERS ONLY, PC2100 64X64 512MB DDR $128
At Crucial.com:
DDR PC2100 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • Non-parity • 7.5ns • 2.5V • 64Meg x 64 $161.99.

So buying two 512MB from Micron/Mushkin/Mitsubischi would save me almost $80 compared to buying from Crucial; this is a CDRW drive!

Please reply with your experience with these 512 MB simms Micron/Mushkin/Mitsubischi/Crucial/Samsung simms; I am not interested at $250 simms super overclocking memory that can reach 190mhz; it would be a waste; the 760MPX dual boards can't reach these speeds anyway.

Wait...you meant DIMMs, right? SIMMs are the old memory which no one use any more. DIMMs are the memory we r using right now..

If you want something that will run 155mhz for sure you would be best to look at 2400ddr or 2700ddr.

Anything else would be a crap shoot.

sorry ment dimms. Crucial 256mb dimms all seem to run at 160mhz. The dual AMD board probably will only run at 150mhz max because of the limitations of the 760MPX chipset. So there is no use in buying expensive 2400ddr or 2700ddr memory. Next to this there aren't any 512MB 2400ddr or 2700ddr dimms available at pricewatch, only 256MB dimms.

Unless they started recently, Crucial doesn't use Micron chips for their 512MB DDR DIMMs either. They are Samsung chips. Not sure how well those do compared to the usual Micron that overclock so well.

May want to go with some Corsair or Mushkin High Performance...KingMax may be an option as well.

Good luck on overclocking that board too. I get alot of errors when getting over 150MHz on mine. Could be due to the fact that I am using registered ECC in mine though. Does run at 145-150MHz very well. Not sure if it's the memory or if my CPUs need more voltage.

Actually, Simms are better than dimms and have alot smaller pin-grid then Dimms do.

The graphics memory on your graphics card uses Simms if its a Geforce or Radeon.

Simms also known as SRAM is 1 step ahead in technology over dimms known as DRAM. The biggest being that they already have QDR already! while Dimms wont see this high end technology for at least another 20 months.

The only reason we dont see Simms used for main on-board memory is simply because Simms are intergrated and Dimms arnt

Micron is ready to ship 1GHz memory modules to nVidia and even ATI, but I wouldnt expect this module to be used till NV30 (Eclipse).

Also, eventualy, QDR will be the back bone to Clawhammer and Mckinley since they will use a 533FSB (133x4) and that is what the memory will run at too.

a 64-bit 133MHz QDR Dimm gives you 4.2GB/s of memory bandwidth.

Crucial is a subsidairy from Micron; strange they are using Samsung because Micron does have 512MB dimms of their own, which are actually priced much lower (see pricewatch quote). Registrated DDR does overclock bad that is why I want 2*512MB unregistrated versus 4*256MB registrated. A guy at 2cpu.com (http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=93598#post93598) overclocked until 157 stable without special memory or voltagemods on the second cpu!
Buying 2 corsair 512MB dimms means big bugs which I prefer to spend on other computer parts if above listed manufacturers will do.
