Hello everyone, I was away from the computer building world. Last thing I remember was that the 295s were discontinued. Now I checked on new egg and they are back on there. Does anyone know why they stopped making them, early last year? I remember people were having stability issues when they first came out. Is that still the case? Is the 295 same in size as the 285?

I never thought they were discontinued ever, none the less a year ago.
I believe its bigger, you can check newegg and see the specs on the card...

They did quit makeing the dual pcb cards, and just put 2 cores on 1 pcb, like a 4870x2. I had a dual pcb one, but it is dead, and off to RMA. I read somewhere that the dual pcb cards clock better then the single pcb model.
i looked at newegg and couldnt find any they had instock.. all of the 295's say auto-notify, the only place that i have seen them were it dosent say there out of stock is bestbuy.com

Wow, 3rd RMA I guess I'll stick with the 285, so far it is able to keep me happy.
P.S. Did not notice the "auto-notify" earlier at newegg.
Thanks for the quick reply everyone

Im hopeing to get a single pcb card, the duals dont seem to be very good.. well maybe for a month or so they are ok.. Ive read of guys doing 4 or 5 rma's to get a decent card. Ill play that game if i have to, but id rather not :(

if you buy a new card now, you will get a single pcb version, they do not sell the dual anymore. as far as I can tell.
thats if you can find one joedymueller

There might be some on ebay, wonder why thay are so hard to come by. Although I don't like paying $500+ for a card that has issues.

So pay $400 for a card about as fast (HD 5870) that has no issues or SLI scaling...100% balls to the wall on ALL games!

LOL, I'll probably stick with the 285 at least until the DX11 cards come out. Wanna see how much better they would be :D

LOL thats pretty funny. Also you should not have to pay more than $300 for a 295. I have seen them go as low as $255 on ebay.
(Odd that over the last few months eBay has had better deals then the classifieds on most of hte forums I go to :s)

And on top of that it overclocks like a dream. ( I use msi after burner to bypass the limit)
I was wondering what happened also... some of the cards on newegg have not been on sale for almost 2 months. I was told by one company they had to pull there last 10 cards off stock but never gave a reason.

To my knowledge the 295 is still on sale.

Do you know the specs? I have seen like 500 different versions. But from what I have seen it looks like they still won't beat the 5970.

Younglin... lol...
Anyway, there are threads all over here showing the specs for GF100. Nvidia I thought released official ones, just not core/memory/shader speeds. I cant imagine their single GPU offering would beat a dual GPU offering, but I will tell you what, I now have a hunch its going to be damn close which is impressive for ONE GPU if thats true. Anyway 1Q (most are expecting end of march).

I don't really expect a single gpu card to beat a dual one, but I heard they were coming out with a dual one as well that fell short to conquering the 5970.

I guess it really shows I've been away form computer building, lol. Thanks for clearing that up. Just looked it up. The 5870 looks really tempting. I would have ordered it right now if it wasn't for the fermi, that hopefully comes out soon. I will wait to see the final product it in action.
Technology moves fast!

I'm almost tempted to hold off on my new build for fermi, but I don't know if it will be worth it.
im waiting to see what they can do. Im an nvidia guy but if it cant keep up, ill jump ship

I am ATI but if Nvidia's fermi is good enough I'll switch over.
