View Full Version : Sugestions on O/C's?
i have a
PIV 1.6 Socket 478
Swiftech MCX478 (w/ delta EHE 80mm fan)
ASUS P4S333 MB
512MB Kingston PC2700 -05
ATI Radeon 8500 (retail)
Audigy Platinum card
Western Digital 100GB 7200RPM
8x4x32 CD-RW
and im wanting to know what some of the first things i should do to get more from it. im not wanting to go water cooling..just dont trust myself w/ electrical stuff and water.. but.. i do know i will be doing a duct from the outside to the HSF on the CPU, and also a crystal orb on the vid card..anything else you could help a newbie in?
Thanks
Shaun =)
WATER h2O...H2O I SAY !!!
Im still waiting for my new system in the mail... DAMN IT. should get here wed-thurs. And i get my geforce4 and 512 pc800 rd in 7 weeks. I CAN NOT STAND THE WAIT (i had to vent)
this shall be the first of the machines in this house...still..open to suggestions...btw..i got this in a 2 foot tall 11bay case.. still bare..winodw, 120mm fan in front to start and 2 side fans
With what your doing i would say water is the only thing that going to keep that thing under control. Get a set from somewhere there only like 120 for a pretty good one. I would get a waterjacket and put heat sinks on the vid card and get a small proc. fan, and have to blow across. Should be able to kick butt that way. And the proc. just get a nice waterjacket and some goo.
Massive airflow. Change the Delta fan to the loud 80cfm one!
Ummm... Clean up the wires for air not to be trapped.
Get 500cfm+ airflow w/ like 4 120mm fans that push like 125cfm or so.
That should get you to some what 2gig!

i do have the loud one =)
80mm EHE delta =) damn thing is LOUD
Sounds like you have good case ventilation and one of the best "air" CPU coolers, I see no reason why you should immediately bend to peer pressure and get a water cooling setup... lol. You should be able to overclock what you have pretty good. I'm assuming this is a Willy P-4 and not a Northy. Stll, you ought to be able to reach 1.9 to 2.1 gig with that setup. About the only other cooling mod I can think of off hand is to improve your mobo northbrdge cooling. On my last three mobos, I removed the northbridge chip heatsink, cleaned off the heat tape gunk, lapped it (optional), and reinstalled it using Arctic Silver thermal paste. If you don't have a fan already on the northbridge, mount a 40mm one onto the heatsink. Good luck.
ya its a willy, and the northbridge is in the working, but now i got all the cooling, its time to make it PRETTY!! =)
im buying a dremel today =)
and im going to look at duct material... pics coming soon =)
(waitig on my digi cam to come in)

use pc2400 o\ced runs better ;) critical ram is nice well from teh tests i saw might be better in other areas
uhmm.. no =P
i have 512MB of 2700 that i have sitting right here =P
im not about to downgrade =P
Start clocking, what's the temperature of your chip? I mean with a Swiftech 478, it should be very lower 30's at stock. Add a duct in your case right above the HSF. The HSF will get cool air outside the case, and since the fan is directly above the case, it'll get there fast and still cool. I found a 5 degree difference doing that.
