I recently picked up 2 matched PII 400s from Ireland. I'm so used to seeing Malaysia and Phillipines that this struck me as kinda odd. Are there still Ireland CPUs? Any info on the history of Irish chips?

All I can say is that I've never seen a PIII or PIV from Ireland nor have I ever heard of any.

yeah, all the ireland chips were discontinued because of major mathmatical errors caused by overexcessive consumption of alcohol ;)

Yes, Intel has facilities there, and yes, they make CPUs. I presume what they make goes to the European market, because they're about as rare as four-leaf clovers in the U.S.

Intel are building one of their newest fabs in Ireland at the moment, although, i have never seen a cpu made in Ireland.

The new fab in Ireland won't be complete until 2003. AFAIK, that's where they're setting up their .09mu operations, so Prescott will probably be produced there eventually. Of course, the chips may still get packaged in Costa Rica and Malaysia.

The plant in Ireland is making the P-4 wafers, just like the other plant in Arizona.
Then they ship them to the other Intel plants worldwide to be assembled.
The last chip Ireland produced and assembled was the P-II 400.

There are fabs in California and Oregon as well, but for the most part they aren't making the P4.
