Quick question about server memory

I finally gave in and pulled the trigger on a dual socket 1366 motherboard(ASUS Z8NA-D6C Dual LGA 1366), and two Intel Xeon processors(2.66GHz Xeon W3520 Bloomfield).

My question is, what memory do I need for this motherboard? Can I use any DDR3 or does it have to be buffered, unbuffered, registered, unregisterd; seems like they would pick a standard by now.

Looks like you can use either regular DDR3 or ECC, but not registered DIMMs. ('Buffered' is just the old term for 'registered', BTW.)

It appears you'd have to have a 5500-series Xeon in order to use registered memory.

Ok cool. I can just use my DDR3 I already have then. Cant wait to get this up and running.

Sorry to break it to you , but the board you picked out only supports 5xxx series processors , it does not support 3xxx series processors since they do not have sufficient QPI links.

Actually I did catch that and changed the order to these Intel Xeon E5520
