I plan on getting a Lian-Li PC-60 or PC-65 case pretty soon, i figure if im going to put together a nice rig i might as well spend the money on the thing im going to put everything on...the only thing im concerned about are the faceplates

now im not a super-shallow guy or anything...but looks are kinda important to me

call me a neat freak if you will

so ive been looking around the net and ive seen one place that has a mod guide to cut out the faceplates provided with the case and stick them on the cd-rom drives and floppy drive...im kinda concerned about doing that to a brand new case because ive never done anything like it before and well..im lazy

so my question to you guys is...do any of you know of a way to get matching aluminum bezels for any major manufacturer's brand of floppy drives or cd-rom, dvd-rom or cd-rw drives? or know of any easy proven methods?

gracias chicos

Doubtful, unless you pay them a lot of money to have it custom made. Few products have silver faceplates, so you'll probably end up painting them. I know Plextor in specific sells replacement bezels, so you might want to contact the manufacturer of your hardware to see if they do so as well.

If you're worried about messing up the original faceplates, you can order replacements at www.so-trickcomputers.com . It's a bit pricey ($5), but it's the only place I know of that sells them

To make Faux Covers for your CDROM/R/RW & floppy drive just follow the instruction in your manual. In case Lian Li doesnt give the the instructions then they probably didnt think my idea was worth anything & decided not to print it for the customers:D so just look below:beer:

1. Score the Aluminum "covers" near the base of their mounts;

2. Fold the mounts flush;

3. Use doublesided velcro tape to attach.

I'll post a pick of my case mod when it's done at Alternative Modding. Still finding the Best way to mount my 120mm 131CFM fan up front & still look like it was meant to be there & not a mod. It's mounted right now but kinda looks off. I too like the Clean Look:beer:

I found another alternative.

It's at the bottom. Not the greatest match, but it'll work

you guys rock, thanks a lot..that aluminum foil/tape thing looks like just the thing i wanted...easy to apply, looks like it matches to me and its cheap and non-permenant....maybe not AS cool as cutting out the aluminum bezels, but ill save that for a rainy day when im bored and feeling destructive..thanks again

Looks nice ucfswimmer. I'm planning on doing something similar but was wondering about your fan. Does it bring air into, or out of, the case & is there any internal ducting that you have done?

Sonny, that case looks awesome, but a nice finishing touch would be one of those laser-cut fan grills with a spiral pattern similar to what is on the filter now. That would look good with the clean look you have IMO, but even without it that case is sweet.

I was thinking of doing something like this (http://www.pheatonforums.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=137&postdays=0&postorder=&highlight=&start=0&sid=7fd7be933942e26ef5584af8097834db) to my Antec case, but since my front bezel is that off-white plastic, having a polished steel case would look silly.

I got some Aluminum colored paint that I might be able to use but it did have the habit of eating thru plastic. Maybe some chrome paint..... or get it plated.....:cool: Originally posted by Lou Natic

Yes that case looks great whatever other members have to say about it. Maybe you can get the front plated to match the case. I think they can do it for plastic since I used to have toys that were plastic & had some chrome finnish on it. They dont last very lonk either so you might want to spray a layer of clearcoat over it after plating.

If you want to paint plastic, go to the toy section of a store or better yet, a hobby store. Model airplane paint is the best, it comes in about 16 bit colors and made for plastic. Remember though your face plate was coated with mold release compound and needs to cleaned with a plastic prep before painting.

Oh yeah, I know about that from building so many models as a kid. Although Testers makes decent paint, it's almost impossible to find paint that resembles that chrome-plating, and even more impossible to find a place that can plate plastic.

You know, if you ever find an aluminum can that is big enough, you could possibly bend it into a straight sheet. Once straight you could trace that plastic swirl onto it and then cut it out. Use a file or something to get off all the jagged stuff, then use rubbing compound to shine it up. That could possibly work, as you could cut any design you wanted to into it.

A great tool to cut cookie sheets with, is a RotoZip saw. They even cut ceramic. The cut so smooth you just need to buff the edges with emery paper. I'm using mine to cut a dragon into the side of my case for a window. My mobo is SOYO dragon ultra. DLed a sharp dragon image from image.google. and had OfficeMax enlarge and print for my template. Somewhere halfway between Sonny's home and mine somebody's enjoying the weather.
