 [B] Hi Everyone, thanks for clicking. I am a newbie to the school of Overclocking but have done my homework at least. I am also new to posting on Overclockers but have been reading threads for months. To the point:

I just bought an XP1800 and wanted to overclock it. So I got all the info, tools, etc. Well here I am, I filled in the slits, saudered the points, no overlapping, etc etc. On boot up with minimal peripherals (ram vid and keyboard), it came up as an athlon XP running at 1540(didn't kill it), than I went in to the BIOS to view its settings, IT WOULD NOT BOOT AFTER THAT!, at all. So I removed the sauder strips and turned her on. Now all I can get is the BIOS thinking its lowest setting which is 550(100), any attempts to increase to normal have failed. CPUINFO in windows(booting on that setting) reads it as running at 1150. Do I need to resauder and hope for the best? get some paint and try that technique, what? I hope someone can help me on this. Oh, by the way, my motherboard never liked restarting from windows on my old K7T 1400 either, always needed the good old button push.

Thanks Folks!

System:
Athlon XP 1800 (used to by K7T 1400)
Abit Kg-7 (not raid)
WD 40GB 5400

256MB pc2100 M Tech
Leadteck GeForce3 TahDah
Philips Seismic Edge
Windows XP Pro (not the shelf version wink)
400W allied Power Supply

Try resetting cmos, setting your multipliers and if you are going higher add a touch of vcore (voltage). Watch for heat.

You CLEARLY need to go into your BIOS/CMOS and switch your FSB from 100MHz to 133MHz. I am suprised your motherboard doesnt beep a few times and tell you that the CMOS needs to be corrected.

Hit delete on startup and enter your bios. Change the FSB. Then run your OS do a few temp checks to make sure you arent overheating your CPU via a bad heatsink installation.

Then in order to take full advantage of your XP you need to reinstall windows. From what I understand the only way to take advantage of SSE is to reformat. If you dont want to reformat then find away around it to enable SSE and please PM me so I may add it to my AMD CPU FAQ.

Please feel free to PM me or IM me on AIM @ stompah77.

I tried to do that, but without the voltage.
It would not boot at those speeds.
After resetting with the jumper on the motherboard it would give the Cmos error, defaults loaded, and I tried a few times to go in to the bios and fix it.
Is it possible that some of the epoxy I used could have closed some caches?
Thanks again.

Did u flash ur BIOS?

Yes I did, that's when it came up 550 on the BIOS and 1150 with CPUINFO. It won't boot if I go in and change up to speed.

Is it possible that I may have shorted a lock? if so is it permanent or do I just need to resauder?

Duh I am stupid... try undoing what you did. Always make sure your chip works with your MB BEFORE you modify it. Especially after a BIOS flash.

So undo what you did (if you can) and post the results.

Well now the MB and windows is reading it as 1150 (1150 and 1170 actually) But anyhoo. I cleaned out all the L1's with nail polish remover, so now it's simply a sparkling L1. Still, when I try to up it to 1400 (133) which for some reason is the max, it won't boot. Another querky thing I noticed is taht it is reading it as an Athlon 4, not an XP. Could this all be a Bios Issue?

Going along with that, Abit's Bios page is down, anyone know an alternative?

-Nic, Nspit66 on AIM if you're watching.

Might this (http://www.abit.com.tw/eng/download/bios/bios-kg7.htm) help?

Ok, I cleaned the chip about 5 times. Alass it runs at normal speed of 1530. I ended up setting it manually, but it finally booted. Thanks all who have helped. I will attempt to overclock again when my micro tip conductive ink pen comes in, perhaps it will work better. If it does, I'll post my results for all to see. Thanks again
