I have a p3 800 with 133 fsb as default but want to overclock without overheating it. Only thing is I've never tried overclocking before and dont know what a safe cpu temp is for that (something like 30c?). Also I dont know when I should stop trying to make the speed higher (I'd rather not take the chance of damaging the cpu).

Read the beginners guide first to get an idea of overclocking, its on the first page of oc.com on the left.

We need to know all the components of your computer like motherboard, ram etc.

ITs not branded is it e.g; Dell, Compaq etc?

With my 800EB, fsb's up to 140 were OK with just a
little CoolerMaster HS on it.

You might want more cooling if you go to 150 or over....

sys specs are:

abit vh6
p3 800

30gb rpm ata 100
windows xp prof

would I be correct in believing the multiplyer cant be changed on any intel processor including this 1?

Right, you cannot change the multiplier on Intel chips. You can only change the front side bus speed. If you have decent ram, you should be able to run at least 150 fsb speed with no problems from the pci or agp busses either. That would make you a 900 proc out of it. Just be careful and go up in speed in little steps and watch your temps closely.

You probably will run into problems with the pci bus or agp bus getting unstable before you max out your proc. The 133 fsb P3's are a lot harder to overclock high than the 100 fsb P3 procs because you are already so high on the front side bus speed to begin with and the lack of pci dividers higher than 1/4 on most boards.

er...yes, just posted at both boards to make sure :) . It seems to be working fine @ 900mhz with cpu temp at 35c so thanks all that helped
