Here's my setup: Cable modem to a D-Link 4 port wireless router. The 98 machine is connected directly to the router. Downstairs I have a Win XP machine on a wireless card.

The problem: I can see my 98 machine from the XP machine. I shared my music and pictures on XP. When I go to Win 98 Explorer it won't let me see the network and tells me "The network is not accessible." Okay...

So I go to Tools/ Map Network Drive and pick a drive letter "O" for example. In the next dropdown for Path my XP machine is there but when I attempt to map it tells me "O: to \\computer name\Shared Docs not logged on."

Now I know the connection between the 98 machine and the router are good because I get the internet fine.

What gives?

1. This would be better asked in networking.

2. Do you have a user setup on the winxp machine for the win98 machine.

3. Are both machines on the same work groupe

I have had a similar setup, except I was trying to have a Win98 a Win2K machine talk to each other. I was able to make it work but it was not stable. Sometimes it would work & sometimes it wouldn't. I changed to Win2K computer back to Win98 & have had 0 problems since.
