I don't see Bioshock 2 being too big a multiplayer game anyway.

It wouldn't surprise me because the first Bioshock didn't have multiplayer.

Did you even bother to click the link given? They link directly to an interview with 2K. Is that "better" enough for you?

BS2 is for the singleplayer, the multiplayer is added on to give a little back story to the events of 1959.

OK now I'm ****ed off ><
I mean the limited online installs I could just about take but this? What the crap... They use a crappy system that you have to be logged into to use the multiplayer which probably means that in 10 years time we won't be able to use it anymore and now I find out that the 10 years we have is going to be shockingly crap...? Didn't they learn anything from MW2? 200ms+ ping doesn't equal a good game...
Man I'm ****ed right now... thinking about canceling my pre-order...

the only thing the gaming industry learned from MW2 is that you can take a crap in a box and people will buy it. I never played MW1 or two but after reading about MW2 i felt robbed.
I enjoyed BS1 storyline and gameplay if BS2 come close to that I will get it... After prices come down or I get a good deal ;)

ROFL tabloids? lol All their news is just gathered from the rest of the internet and if it comes from some shadowy site they always put it right on their that they don't trust it till more info comes out.
I believe they tend to be more along the front lines of good info. Just a lot of haters these days because they've become a very mainstream site.
As for multiplayer I was waiting for it, 3 others guys i work with were waiting for it. It looked awesome! But now i think i'll avoid it.
I was already passing due to it having SecuROM, GFWL, AND installation limits on top of Steam. This just seals the deal, especially since 2K is lying about it. They didn't have time to do LAN or dedicated servers? They outsourced the multiplay and didn't touch it, they had as much time as they needed on it without detracting from the single play.

SecuROM, GFWL, AND installation limits on top of Steam.
Steam offers its own DRM - no SecuROM needed.
Steam offers its own social system - no GFWL needed.
If these idiots made the decision to release on Steam, then why couldn't they just use the Steam features?

MW1 was great, a gem in fact. MW2 was everything but.

Wait I'm confused. The steam version still has securom and GFWL?? WTF, I know that GTA4 via steam uses GFWL but this sucks.

Sadly until people stop buying these sub par supported games, developers have no reason to stop putting out crap.

To sum it all up:
Bioshock will only use the securom disk check and nothing else. This will only be with the disk version, not the steam version.
You're going to have 15 activations for online play meaning the single player mode can be installed infinite times but if you activate online play on each install you'll have to call them up on the 16th time.
The game will be using the "Games for Windows system"... This is the one that really <profanity goes here> me off. It's going to be similar to the GTA IV GFWL system but more so. You'll have to have an account for everything and it uses the ridiculus "matchmaking" system which is basically every compter has to connect to every other computer in order to play.
MW2 showed us how bad the matchmaking system is but the majour problem is that people will still buy this game... The SP will probably be amazing and that's what most people are buying it for. Because of this bioware will now think that using this technique will be a good idea so over time this system will be used mroe and more.
Now I'm raging over all of this again... close to swearing... off to play a source games to calm me down :D

Go play Golden Eye Source. I have been lately, and loads of fun ;)
Games for Windows makes me sad in ways that are hard to describe. It is like being betrayed by someone that should be looking out for you. Granted, saying M$ is looking out for you is like saying a Starved Yeti is looking out for you. All that effort they put into promoting it, and they just toss it aside as soon as they see green in other pastures. Fooking Microsoft.

Well I'm back after playing through portal :) All calm again.
I think M$ should stick with OS's (as long as their up to W7 standard) and stay out of places they don't belong. They've taken a royal dump on gaming now and made life a living hell for the future. I mean as soon as M$'s servers go that's it... many of the games we buy now will only last 20 years or so (I think M$ will fail either to Linux or possibly to Apple if they release a gaming OS)
Just generally annoying but I'm in a happy mood! Chell is awesome :D

I just wish MS would be the pioneers of pc gaming, after all, they pretty much single handedly created the home pc or at least got the movement going that way. Then they turn their back on their baby and go to the mistress know as the console!
********.

Well I have to say I've just been thinking about this.
Is it M$s fault? I think it's more about those bloody piraters...
I really do think that the government should step in and track the uploaders of the games and put their asses in jail for at least 10 years... What's caused me to rage again? I've learned that people are torrenting ME2 (no DRM), Source games (REALLY no DRM and their all cheap) and other amazingly good games that the companies have done nothing to entice people to torrent it. Bioshock 2 I can understand because of the DRM and the no LAN support.
I mean it's what, 50 bucks for a game? Working for like 3 hours when your 16 will buy you that game. Sorry I'm spamming this thread with rage a lot here :( Just feel pretty passionately about this.

I agree, i hear ya too. To date the only games I have downloaded illegally was GTA V and Final Fantasy 7.
GTA4 was because of the fail that was a port and how long it was before it finally was patched correctly. I wasn't going to spend 49.99 on that. I did buy it though finally from wal-mart about 6 months ago for 19.99.
Final Fantasy 7 was because of edios offering absolutely no support to get it working with vista 32/64. And so when I had to scour forums to piece together solutions i wasn't going to pay them the 9.99 at walmart for it.
I'm very adamant about developers working for us and not us working for them ya know?

You might want to change what you said sharpish. I don't think the mods will like you saying you've done something illegal :P
But yeh, that's why ME2 torrenters REALLY ****ed me off. I mean the game is based on fan feedback and what do they do? Crap in their faces and torrent it anyway... I mean what dicks. I just want to punch all of them and teach them how their destroying PC gaming... GUARGH

The only problem I have with that is this, from the steam preorder page -
DRM Information: SecuROM offers unlimited activations on up to 5 PCs.
I always wonder about this. What do they count as an individual PC? Do they mean if I go and swap out everything in my computer except the case, or does it count as a new PC if I do something as simple as reinstalling windows on a new hard drive?

Thanks for sharing the clarification. Doesn't sound like the end of the world. GFWL to me means the developer must think the multiplayer isn't worthwhile or they'd give it more consideration - I'll consider this a single-player only game unless I hear otherwise. I was only looking forward to SP regardless so it probably won't nix my eventual buy, but then I'm not the sort to pay release-day costs so I'm not sure whether anyone cares where my dollars go :).
Redundant DRM on Steam releases will never cease to confound me though - I can't perceive the business argument other than perhaps the Steam folks being hard to deal with/trust?

Blaming piracy for developers going to console is like blaming your dog going poo on your carpet for your reason to go to Cancun. Plain and simple, game and market availablility of consoles is vastly superior compared to the mixed market of PCs. It is much easier for Joe MW2 Blow to get a 360 or PS3 and a the game then for him to go to Dell, HP, Alienware, etc. Or even build his own. Yeah, PCs are really cheap for gaming these days, doesn't mean that people are not intimidated by them or have a skewed opinion of PC's based on ignorance of one degree or another.
Pirates are not destroy gaming by itself, reasonable economics is. The piracy issue is much more complex then most people honestly think.

Do you think if all piraters had jobs then they would torrent? I'm pretty sure that most torrenters are just kids who can't get jobs and their parents are doing the right thing by not buying them violent video games so they turn to torrenting.
I know that pirating is a lot more complex to a certain extent but I've always been loyal to the companies who have treated us right. ME1 was a real big dissapointment on the DRM front (dissabling DaemonTools?!?! What the crap?) but ME2? I have no problem with it.
I don't know, I could go look into pirating but I've always worked for what I've wanted so I have a very negative look on pirating in general. If by some obscure reason pirating isn't stealing I would love to hear it but as far as I can tell their all just petty criminals.

People don't pirate because they are poor. I pirated two game in my life. The first was Deus ex and here is the story why.
I was a teen in high school, I had a job ext. I went to best buy looking through the pc games I see Deus ex in a jewel case for $15. I get it home play for 5 hours, make it close to the end and then I get a screen that says "Thank you for buying Deus ex extended demo. You can buy the full game at ext ext". I was ****ed no where on the game case did it say demo. So I downloaded it, I also later bought the full game for $5.
The other was one of the Cnc games after my game was scratched and EA would replace the disc even for a fee, they told me to go buy a new copy. My EA hate goes back a long time

02-02-10, 06:13 AM
OK I understand if your disk has been scratched or you've paid for it but you've been ripped off since I've done similar things (poor COD2 :() but it's the people who pirate games who haven't paid for it or even pirate it before the release date. Those people **** me off :P
Torrenting in general is great if it's used responsibly but it's not.

I agree with most of your post, except the first line - traditional PC-only developers and publishers are the ones citing piracy as a primary reason for the move towards consoles... can you think of a better, more primary source?
PS: I realize this is just contributing to keeping this thread off-topic... don't mean to toot my own horn, but here's a thread with a good discussion on the implications of piracy in today's world (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=630656) Might be better to move our discussion there ;).
