View Full Version : Got Bayonetta? Like it?

I'm considering getting this for 360. I played the first devil may cry and didn't really love it. It was good but a little bit shoddy.
Is this game better? Harder? Easier?
Can you think of other games to compare it to for story graphics and game play and difficulty?
I beat everything I don't like getting stuck.
I was considering it as well until I realized it was japanese.

The game is fun. Short, but fun. Some people have said that they beat it, and collected everything, all within 30 hours. Naturally, you can beat the game MUCH quicker than that.
It's comparable to Devil May Cry. If I remember correctly, The creator of DMC is the same person who did Bayonetta.
It's harder than DMC, or Onimusha. I can beat the living hell out of everything in DMC and Onimusha. Bayonetta was a bit harder. And I was only on normal difficulty.
What makes the game so awesome, is the fact that it's so over the top with it's special kills, the way Bayonetta acts, How perverted she is. It hits a level of "WTF" that's so high in some spots, that it makes the game awesome.
But in all honestly, due to the fact that the game is pretty short, And the story is quite confusing, I suggest you just rent the game, Unless you totally LOVE these types of games. But I don't see it as a game that a person would really care to have it sitting on their shelf a year from now. But maybe that's just me.
If you want a God of War / Devil May Cry type of game to play, I'd suggest waiting for Dante's Inferno on the 9th of this month. ( Or if you have a PS3, get God of War 3 next month. ) Or both, which is what I'll be doing.

it is VERY fun.
i'm currently stuck in a spot where i have to fight 3 monsters that are only able to be hurt with her 'hair' attacks and i can't seem to pull off the attacks properly.
I was considering it as well until I realized it was japanese.

What is wrong with the japanese?

What is wrong with the japanese?
Ever watch Japanese TV, especially game shows?
Hentai
Cosplay
Those "touching" DS games
Pepsi Ice-Cucumber
Micro-Hotels (aka human cubby-holes) (think of the Seinfeld episode with the dresser drawers)
Man, there's not even enough room here for me to list everything.
That being said, I would practically give my left testicle to spend a week paid in Tokyo.

You do realize that is not even 1/10th of Japan as a whole right? A friend lives in Japan and looks at me funny whenever I ask him about that stuff.
It seems that only the really odd, bad, weird stuff gets exported from a country usually, the good stuff stays at home. AKA your list above, the fact that the world looks at the UK as a nanny state, the US as psycho gun toting idiots, etc... Yes there are exceptions to every rule but basing an opinion of a country off the weird stuff is like buying a car because the door handle is chrome.

Maybe I'll actually check out the demo for this. I've played a little DMC4, and while it's not my favorite game due to having to memorize the combos[ I hate too much memory work], it is quite a bit of fun. This one's got a decently hot chick as the main character, so it can't be all bad! If the demo tickles me, I'll give it a rent.

I know, I have cousins from Okinawa. I'm just saying..... I could prattle off a list of the same things about America. I really don't have anything bad to say about Canada though aside from the taxes.
I'm not going near this game. DMC was cool and all, but this... this is just stupid.

Care to elaborate? I don't really know much about the game aside from it being kind of a DMC clone. Just calling it stupid doesn't really help out people in my situation.

I've had the demo for awhile but just got the chance to play it till it's end the other day. This is on 360 btw....it might be a good purchase if I want some brawling action when it goes cheaper used. The graphics are fantastic, it runs super smooth, and the fighting is pretty cool..some really neat special moves. It does seem like a pretty shallow Japanese action game though. Story doesn't seem compelling or told very well, like a lot of action Japanese games there's an echoy whispery voice that tells the narrative..just like in Panzer dragoons and Otogi and probably a host of others. The pacing is pretty fast..there's no side quests or need to explore or buy things or level up it seems..just run from one fight to the next... I can see how it could be a short game.

Glad for your input blueswitch. Sounds like my kind of action game, really. If it's fast paced, I don't personally want the game slowed down by side quests and extensive leveling up. Make it quick and easy, on par with the rest of the game :) I'm actually pretty sure I'm going to check out the demo now.

It's the premise of the game.
You play as a woman with long, ugly hair, who's outfit is supposedly made from hair. She has an annoying English accent, bad wardrobe, and silly gun stilettos. The game seems marketed to the lonely basement dweller type, or the prepubescent gets-excited-over-women-in-videogames 12 year old.
If that's something you can stomach, then you may want to check it out. But I personally can't. I'm sure the combat and gameplay is pretty cool - but I simply can't get over the face value of the game.
Plus, I generally don't like female protagonists anyways. Especially the overly-sexified ones.

the game is awesome. it is marketed towards those that love poking fun at games. It pokes fun at itself and other similar games and a few other game genres as well.
it's good, silly fun that is very engaging and very fun to do.

Game is absolutely amazing, bought it first day it came out and beat it in around 8 hours. Played through a second time on Hard and it's pretty damn tough. I don't think even want to think to see what Infinite Climax is like.

Sounds like a love it or hate it game. Better than a mediocre one I guess :)
It looks like porn.
I youtube'd this game and she has an entire skin-tight outfight made out of her own hair which flies off her perfect naked body when she does a finishing move that turns her hair into a giant dragon/phallus shaped thing?
Dubya tee eff?

Yeah, I had to do some youtubing since I haven't gotten to the demo yet... Looks like it's going to be some good, gory fun. That chick they used in the live action commercial was pretty smokin' hot :)

yeah, he must be crazy to not be attracted to fake, nonexistent women.
Yeah I prefer my women hairy and ugly.
That being said I downloaded the Demo and its absolutely appaling, this game is no different than every other anime/hentai'esque game that has a ridiculous amount of nauseating camera angles and a general lack of creativity.
Reminds me of the following games:
-Onimusha (sp?)
-Dynasty Warriors
-DMC
-Tekken
-Any other Japanese console game that consists of silly costumes and weird weapons with combos that translate into "mash these buttons really fast so you dont die"
*shrug*
I think the reason I hate all the over sex'd up women in these Jap games is because the men there can't get laid and their women look like men primarily (check out the Chikan community over there, they have entire sites and blogs dedicated to rape and groping techniques)
Deeply disturbing.

So you hate a certain style and type of game because you don't agree with what you perceive as the culture of the people who made it? :screwy:

Many Japanese feel the same for American culture.
But anyone can take certain aspects of a culture that they don't like and then complain about all of it being somehow evil or whatever; while ignoring reality.

oh, and the "annoying english accent" is probably my favorite part of the entire game. The voice actress they got for Bayonetta was PERFECT. It's hard to find the right VA for a particular character, but they hit the nail on the head on this one. And the english accent makes it even better.
Oh, and my G/F, whom has really long hair, said that Bayonetta has really pretty long hair. So I think i'll take a female ( whom has long hair, and is obsessed with keeping her hair perfect ) opinion over yours.
The gameplay is a lot like DMC. In my opinion, it's much faster ( and harder ) than DMC. But the face value of the game is what makes the game great. Any game can be released with fast combat, and end up sucking ( DMC4 as an example. No where near as good as the first 3 ). But it's the face value that you dislike that makes this game actually good.
It's over the top, insane, and a couple points you will go "WTF". That's where the game has value.
But I guess it all depends on one's personal preferences.
That still doesn't give you the right to call me, or anyone else a "lonely basement dweller type, or the prepubescent gets-excited-over-women-in-videogames 12 year old.".
Are all football players retarded jocks?
Are all video gamers overweight, single, and pathetic?
Are all nerds pocket protecting wearing, taped glasses, with zero social skills?
Are all blonde's big boobed-bimbo's?

25% - 35% of the men between the ages of 25 - 35 are virgins.
There are quite a few reasons for that.
1 - After a women graduates from high-school, the major trend there is to focus on money. When converted to American dollars, According to major polls in japan, at least 25% ( can't remember the exact number, but it's a large chunk of their female population. I'll look for the exact numbers later. ) of the females who responded said that they wouldn't even CONSIDER dating a guy who makes less than $40,000 a year. From there it got worse. Nearly 10% of the women polled wouldn't touch a guy unless he made at least somewhere near the $80,000 mark.
The economy in japan isn't that great either right now. people ARE having trouble finding work. A lot of the old jobs that japan used to be known for are getting outsourced to places like india, and Korea.
2 - Japanese females have recently changed for some reason in their view on japanese men. Less and less Japanese males and Japanese females are hooking up. More and more you are finding that the women of japan are hooking up with men from other countries ( A good portion of those guys are american ). Which naturally leaves quite a few japanese males single.
There are other reasons stuff like this is going on.
But to just say that you don't like the culture, when your post obviously shows you have nearly no knowledge of the culture, is pushing way past being "stereotypical". It's down right being rude ( in my opinion ) to the japanese ( and especially, the japanese males ).
Maybe you didn't mean your post to sound derogatory, but that's how I read it.
Except for the slander against the perceived audience iaacp believes whom would buy this game, everything he mentioned is what makes the game awesome.

Haven't met one that isn't at least one of those things
Are all nerds pocket protecting wearing, taped glasses, with zero social skills?
Same as above, haven't met one that doesn't meet one of these criteria
Are all blonde's big boobed-bimbo's?
Never really found that hair color determines breast size, but I find that if the boobs are big, the body had to sap some away from the brain to compensate for the size

And maybe the reason that the Japanese women there aren't interested in the local men is because they're lonely, weird, mail-box urinating tiny penis'd virgins who understand the vibrate function on their cellphones better than they do the female anatomy.

That's wrong on so...many...levels.
the stuff posted on 4chan, and 2chan is not the majority of what japanese culture is. It's just that the over the top, weird, and crazy stuff is the only thing interesting enough to be talked about in other countries.
and yes, I understand you are being funny. I'm not taking your post seriously.
Oh, and my G/F, whom has really long hair, said that Bayonetta has really pretty long hair. So I think i'll take a female ( whom has long hair, and is obsessed with keeping her hair perfect ) opinion over yours.
Okay, this just made me laugh.
This has nothing to do with what we're talking about at all.
I don't care if you take your girlfriends opinion over mine. Heck, I'd encourage you to do that.
That's like me saying "hey guys, my girlfriend (who has really white teeth) says Bayonetta has really white teeth. I'm gonna take her opinion over yours! A total logical fallacy, has nothing to do with the game itself, etc.

Wow. Overly sensitive much?
I didn't say *you*, or anyone else here, is the lonely or prepubescent type. I said it seems like the game is marketed to those types, which it is. It isn't marketed to women at all, nor the sports loving junkie. Not the fratboy who likes MW2 either.
This game was made in Japan. They have a very different market than us. It can be said they enjoy sexified animation at a larger ratio than we do. I don't believe that's an insult or inaccurate.
My argument was not that anyone who plays this game is weird. I'm saying it's marketed to a certain group, and I feel the game is silly. It seems you misinterpreted me.
So, no, no apology. I said nothing wrong. Maybe you should apologize for buying a lame game? :)
Lastly, ocnoob, have you tried the demo? One does exist on the marketplace for 360 and PS3. I'd recommend going off of that, rather than our posts. Actions are better than words!
If you ever need some insight to the culture of Japanese, do a search for the game "Rapelay" and all will become clear.
Yeah this isn't a debate on Japanese culture and the relevance of stereotypes. It's a discussion about a computer game.
Well, was. *click*
