Now that we've figured out biocides...
Lets figure out how not to run of of water...
I thought about the alarm someone built on the main page... Which I can't seem to find at the moment...
It was basical some magnetic switches that once the level dropped the contact was made and the alarm sounded...
Then "Idea two" hit me:
What do you think?!?
Nice setup you got there, I tought of a setup with a styrofoam ball pushing up a plastic card combined with a fotocell for the allarm. Once the card has lowered under a certain level, light falls on the fotocell and this triggered the allarm. I abbandoned the idea because of financial reasons :( , perhaps you could give it a try.

I use a sightglass on my reservoir, just look at it once in a while and you can tell how much water you're using and helps to calculate your fill times. i basically have mine calculated to 197hrs of continuous usage will require 1gallon of water to be recomped somehow, as my reservoir is 5gallons, i figure my critical fill time to be at 4 gallons missing, so that's about 800hrs of usage before i really need to add water badly. what i end up doing is just looking at the sight glass once in a while and when she's half full i'll put more water in. and no i don't keep track of the hrs of usage, but i'm working on that one, i'm gonna find an electricity meter to hook on my pump.

Yeah, I did something similar +basic like that when I was running my first watercooling setup. Now I have a window built into my res so I can just check to see when waterlevels are low :p

I had thought of a simmilar idea with the styrofoam, only with a pole that would hit a momentary switch. When water level is right, the switch would be closed and the alarm or whatever would be off. However once the water level drops the circuit would open and the alarm would sound. No plans or anything yet, just an idea. I also had an idea for a flow meter using the guts from an old mouse. Again, no plans yet.

The easiest and most effective is to use a automotive washer resevoir sensor with a L.E.D attached to indicate low water level. They cost about $10.

but for my water cooling system i want to pute a temp. swiths that will close my system down just conect it to the power swiths of or mobo
if it wil hit 50c it will chut down my system if the water level is to low for good cooling or if the pump fails and u just place it on the top of ore water block
anyway its very simple and safe and kost around 2 $ so it will be the best investmand anyone can do
see page 213 on this link howe they look

Ther's a bunch of programs that'll shutdown your computer if the rises to high... Shutdownnow being one of them...

Hardware is a bit more reliable than programs - if your comp crashes the hardware sensor will still work.
As for level metering you can set up a small circuit to switch a light on when the water level drops for a couple of bucks. I'll post a diagram if anyone is interested.

How about one of these,
Sensor, level, liquid, solid state, rear mount, 5-16Vdc (http://www.rswww.com/cgi-bin/bv/browse/Module.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1493728630.1012749544@ @@@&BV_EngineID=gadcdeiffkhfbemgcfkmcfjldhm.0&3190202746=3190202746&catoid=-89753791)
connected to one of these:-

Fan imitator That can be made for $2 and detailed HERE (http://www.zerofanzone.co.uk/content.asp?request=liquidgf3&Page=5)
That in turn is connected to the CPu fan header and can be set to shut off the system in a controled way with the Bios CPU fan zero RPM or with MBM / Shutdown now. etc
Haven't built it yet but have all the bits
