View Full Version : Bad Company 2 C2D vs C2Q
Guys,
I know this has been all over the net. With my rig, see sig, can anyone give an estimate of a boost in performance if I was to upgrade my E8500 at 3.8ghz CPU to Q9550 and overclock to at least 3.4ghz??
This may be tough to ask with only beta available. I'm getting 40-55 FPS constant with 1920x1200, all High settings, AA 8x and AF 8x, vsync and hbao both off.
It's a great game, but want some fps headroom. Thanks all.

I'd also like to know this, but waiting for the final release first since it'll supposedly be better optimized. Can't find any comparisons online yet.
Make sure to run in DX9 and try 4x AA to see if performance improves. Turn shadows down too. Pretty sure I can get it running playable on my C2D by sacrificing a few settings and leaving most on max, we'll see.
A small tweak guide here: http://www.fragcast.org/?p=433
Should be much more detailed tweak guides coming out once it's released or near release.

I don't think the upgrade is worth it, wait abit longer and go i7 or i5.
Your FPS are very respectible for this game at that resolution.

Horrible question for a beta that hasn't been out 2 weeks.
Just wait for the release, the beta we are playing now is over a month old and is still a week or two away from going gold. There are still many improvements they can make to bring the performance levels up even higher.

Horrible response that adds no meaningful help to this thread.
To the rest, game is very playable. I have heard about the beta being old, the retail version being more optimized; but honestly, the beta can't be that much different. I would assume little tweaks here and there, but with people saying it's only a BETA!!!!111, it's as if people expect the retail version to be a completely different game, which will not happen.
Trust me, I also hope the retail version is better.

You should wait for release and then see what kind of performance comparisons are out there. While the game will utilize four cores, the current version of Beta is an older unoptimized version for dual cores. There have been official statements on this, as well as how the current Beta textures are limited to "low" settings. Also, I'm not even sure this game can use a second video card yet... so don't worry if it doesn't properly maximize dual core performance.
Basically, this is a real beta version. The retail version could be up to 6 months ahead in patches, optimizations, testing and features.
A few statements made by official reps that some of you may not have seen yet:
# BFBC2 Lead Designer RT @locust9: Fyi we will not add prone based on anything. You can stop asking now, but share your feedback with me. :) 6:06 AM Feb 1st from TweetDeck
# @ParagonZA Also, from heromilkshake: Yes, the #BFBC2 PC beta doesn't have all of our optimizations. Some we will try to patch in. 10:45 AM Feb 3rd from web
@ParagonZA The Beta does not include the high-res textures. It is only 1.4 GB, while the full game is 10+ GB.
