View Full Version : Fans powered by AC socket through AC/DC adapter
I used a 1000mA AC/DC adapter and powered all my fans through a regular household AC socket (except the PSU fan, of course). I'm thinking this will prevent stressing the PSU too much. I only have a 200W PSU and even though I have now problems with it right now. I like the idea of having enough juice for add-ins later on.
I also used a switch so I can turn the fans on and off anytime.
Has anyone tried this before? Any concerns regarding this setup?
Oh, by the way, the fans are:
1 monitor cooler (92mm)
1 YS-tech 92mm fan
1 NMB 92mm fan
1 52mm fan

Seems like a good idea to me...
once I went with water I disconnected every other fan, except the one I added to my Northbridge for the same reason...
The, brand new 4" fan with rheostat, for my bong is ran off a 780ma dc pwr supply I had for something years ago...

This is all fine and dandy but keep in mind it is possible to bring the temp of your box down TOO fast and damage your cpu... I would suggest either shutting your external fan power off when you shut your computer off or just keep the CPU fan connected to the PSU....that way you won't get temps changing too fast when you shut your box off.
