I am getting this Rheostat, and I was wondering if there was some way to change the way the LED is set up.

Right now it is always ON, even if there is no Fan attached.

But that's not my problem, my problem is that I want to be able to see the LED dim or brighten when I turn the RPM's of ym fans up or down......

Is there anyway I can do this?

Here is the Rheostat.

No, not really.

LED's are diodes and the way they operate is that they are pretty much on or off.

Yes there is linear operating region for them but we're talkin millivolts here if not microvolts which is pretty hard to control unless u have some pretty sophistacated equip.

So basically what i'm saying is that it'd be pretty dam hard to bias the LED to work just in its linear operating region.

When i'm saying linear operating region, i'm talking about increasing voltage across the terminals, increases the current flowing through it at a constant rate.

The thing is when diodes hit a certain voltage level, they are interesting in that they tend to hold that same voltage across it while current flowing through the diodes just keeps continueing to grow exponentially.

Geez, sorry bout the rant, i just took a course on diodes so i'm bubbling with info right now, hehe=)

Maybe there is a way to do it easily, but I don't think so, hopefully maybe someone else knows a way.
