is active noise canceling a necessity?
i have the sony mdr-nc22, but honestly the actually earphones aren't that great. I only have it cuz i'm on the skytrain (that's right not subway =P) and bus alot.
honestly, everyone is gonna flame for for this, but out of ALL the earphones i've ever had, my favorite is still the skullcandy Titan inears. Damn those earphones just have this really round and awesome bass noise that i love so much. I've tried countless brands and makes like bose, sony, etymotic, sennheiser and JVC but that's my honest opinion and conclusion.

The titans are amazing!! The noise cancellation is brilliant!! Even when there is no music playing i can hardly hear a thing!! Sound quality is brilliant too, not too much bass, excellent clarity... brilliant stuff, much better than my old in ear sonys!!

i have the skullcandy FMJ - very good -
Hmm, I've always liked the earphones that come with an iPod. Had a couple others, never liked them though. Had a $10 pair of Sonys that were pretty good. Now I'm using Apple earbuds with a mic and remote in the cord, work great as far as I'm concerned.

I've never like the ipod earphones... sound tinny and everyone else can hear them just as well as you!! I use my ipod in college so minimum noise is essential...

My thoughts precisely, but let us not dwell on our elitism.
After all, sound is all subjective.
If sandy enjoys them, that is all that really matters.

Yea, skullcandys are GREAT compared to your stock buds, but their build quality is definatly questionable at times.
I recently got a pair of soundmagic PL21, £22.95 @ Hifi-Headphones, they are some nice phones too.
