Good day,
I am putting together a system for overclocking but am not a gamer. I watch the occasional video downloaded from the net and do a bit of graphics work for Web development. Other than that I don't have much use for a hitech video card. I am going to use a XP1600 and a shuttle mobo. What would you recommend for a video card. Also I was wondering after this system is together what can I use to test the speed of the system as I do changes?
Thanks James
Well I'm picking up a Visiontek 5632 Geforce 2 32 mb DDR gts v for a comp i'm building and it was only 52 dollars.
Visiontek is a good company and you can't beat the price. It should be more than enough for what you need.
I had a Visiontek geforce 2 ti that was fast but i killed it by using arctic silver epoxy on the ramsinks.
there are other cards out there that are good but i don't know of any this cheap and from a good quality manufacturer

For the non-gamer, I would suggest a cheap Radeon. They are superior when it comes to 2d.
Of course, you can get a 8MB generic AGP for really cheap, less than $20 for sure. 16MB for maybe $10 or $20 more.
With regard to testing/benchmark software, a lot of people use Sisoft Sandra...http://www.sisoftware.demon.co.uk/sandra/

Your from BC so I looked around on the main Vancouver shops and I recommend picking up the
$59 ATI Rage 128 Pro 32Mb over at anitec.ca on Kingsway.
If you don't live in Greater Vancouver then I don't really know any shops up North.
The Rage 128 has the excellent 2d picture ATi is known for. Should suit you fine and is really cheap too.
I recommend the Matrox G550 for one big reason, 2D quality. This card is generally regarded as the top card for 2D applications like Photoshop and Dreamweaver etc...Additionally, It is duel head (1 DVI and 1 HD15) so you can run two monitors off of it. The Drivers are ROCK solid in Windows. You can pick it up at newegg.com for $92. The G450 offers 2 HD15 connectors for analog monitors...

Yeah I would also go with Matrox when it comes to 2D quality, they are top off the line!
Matrox has great 2d quality. But I would recommend a Radeon 32DDR or GeForce 2 MX 400. If you buy too low quality you'll still have problems surfing with the frame rates being horrible!

I would use the Radeon VE 32MB DDR. You can pick one up for less then $50 USD @ newegg and it has great DVD, good 2D, and better D3D then many other cards more expensive, which sounds like the only thing you would really need.

opps, just checked and the price went up a little since I bought one. It looks like you may have to pay $60 USD unless u do some more digging.
