Well... my bios was screwed up one way or another. Anyway, I have a K6-2 300 with a Award bios. When my comp is started it says

"Award Bootlock V1.0
BIOS CHECKSUM error
Looking for media on drive A:"

I finally got to a promt (it seems to say my command.com is missing or corrupt, although I took the HDD and copied it from another comp) and flashed my bios... but to no luck. After flash is done, it resets comp. and same error appears. I have heard there is a way to get around and fix bios without replacing. (Bootlock is supposed to save some data in case of bios crash). But I cant figure it out... plz help.

thanks

Following this procedure should (http://www.sysopt.com/articles/recoverbios/) work. Good luck! And if this doesn't work, you could use Uniflash and do a "hot swap". It's easy if you're careful. Basically you take the bios chip out of your working computer at the A: prompt, put the chip you want to flash in, and flash the correct bios. Award flash won't work unless you have an identical board. It will detect that the BIOS doesn't match the hardware. But Uniflash will allow you to proceed. After you flash, power down and put the BIOS chips back in their proper boards.
