Ok so far here is the deal.

I have your average paint can with lid from home depot.

I think it's a 1 gallon can (bro says so, so I trust him)

and I have some "outdoor" goop. supposed to work on plastic, metals, waterproof stuff, etc.

Will this stuff be ok for sealing my system ? I Want it completely sealed, once I stick my pump in with the plumbin connected, it's a done deal, if my pump dies I guess I Can rip it open or make a new one.. heh.. (it really was cheap). Also does anyone know if tihs kind of goop can withstand the chemicals in water wetter ? cause I do need to do that.. I've also read about some purple ice stuff, that looks cheaper, but it doesn't say if it's anti-bacterial ? I only read anticorrosive.

the thing is, the paint can is like the cheapest thing I could find for a res, but the problem is it is round.. will this be trouble if I want my water outlet to be on the side of the res, near the bottom?? (for air trapping purposes).. I guess I could have botht he inlet and outlet on the top since I'm gonna have a fill spout, but wanted to know if a lower side mount was worth the hassle.

and about my fill spout.. I want something that sticks above the rest of the reservoir, that way I can completely fill the reservoir - etc, and get all air out possible. What is best to use for this purpose ? I'd also seal that too, fyi..

Also if anyone can share pics along with advice, that would be great.. (I can whip up a pic in paintshop upon request) and I would also appreciate some input on making a fan shroud/duct for my 12" x 5" radiator. I'm gonna mount two 120mm fans on it.

And I'm new to drilling holes for stuff... I know I should drill a smaller hole than what I want to stick in it (like you would for a screw?) but not too sure.. also I can't seem to find barbs for my 3/8 tubing anywhere.. (it all looks confusing in the store) is the price online that bad, or can I go for it ?

thanks.

I'm not expert here... Just startedWCing a couple of weeks ago...
But I must ask what are you trying to acheive?!?

If your using a paint can as I know them, metal with lid, then you should've have to worry to much about sealing it... When I bought my house last year I found paint in the garage still good... I bought a VA house that had been winterize 3 years earlier... Paints still good by the way...

Sealing it could mean losing your pump or having to redo it if something like the hose comes loose in the can...

Goop seems to be some killer stuff... I've been using it for years... I don'[t know what the differences between all the makes is, but marine Goop seems to be what people here use so I used it on my system...

If the system is sealed and totaly bleed I would think you would'nt need anything anti-bacterial...

I have the pump outlet coming out the top of my resv and had no problem with the new pump, The old pump though could'nt bleed it liek that... To come out the side of a round cn I suppose you could flatten it with a hammer then use the Goop to stop leakes from it not being perfectly flat...
The lower in/outlets might be better with a "cheap" pump...

As far as a fill spout, I'm too sure, you could probably get some PVC ans use a cap, or metal pipe with a threaded cap, then Goop again...

For drilling hole make the the same size then use nuts, You have a better chance or not craking the material that way...

You should be able to find 3/8" barbs at Home Depot, The hardest part of that is finding help at Home Depot to point them out...

There is always going to be bacteria in the water, filled or not.. I'll be adding the water-wetter regardless, as it is an anticorrosive agent and I have an aluminum radiator with copper waterblock...

I'm not looking to seal my fill spout permanantly tho, as I could use it to drain the system if I needed to take the PC apart.. . and most of my system is external..

(I'll be moving to Wisconsin in a few weeks, but after a few months I'll be moving to permanent housing again..)

I just like to seal the lid as extra precaution, and what I am trying to acheive is nothing special - I just want to build an inexpensive reservoir.

To combat any tubing comming loose, I will simply measure the distance from the bard to the pump connection, and I will use some very loose sort of tubing that is flexible. I will then goop the assembly together.

That solves any problems with that.. if my pump dies, it's an inexpsensive project to build another system and prolly give me some enjoyment I know how to do something with my hands.
