View Full Version : Cheap air cooling? What is the best?
I have a watercooling setup and always have, but I am about to put a 1.4 Ghz T-Bird into my mom's computer and I need to find a good, but relatively cheap HS/F. The system is not ever going to be overclocked. Any suggestions?

How cheap.
I'd say either the SK6 or the 8045. WIth either of them you can use a quiet 80mm fan and get adequate cooling for that sort of system.

My 1.4 TB is not oc and my temp was running 47c to 50c that with folding and seti running so i put the alpha pal 8045 on with a delta 68cfm fan and now my temp stays at 37c. But i agree get a guiet fan the delta is loud. Got both at kd computers for 71.00 shipped. Hope this helps.
If your buying the chip in a retail box you can always use the supplied HSF. I'm using mine until I get my watercooling rig finished. My temps range from 40-47 on an athlon xp 1800+ not OC.
Since this is my old system I don't have any cooling for what so ever, because I had my watercooling on it.
I'm not particulary sure how much I can spend, but I just want something remotely quiet and that will cool a 1.4 Ghz T-Bird.
Alright, here is Hoots best bang-for-buck recommendation. Forget the SK-6. Get a Dynatron DC1206BH-625 from SVC. You can order it with whatever fan you want. Performance is obviously better with a better fan. Base price with a mid-to-low performance fan is $14.95. If you put a Delta 38cfm (add $5.00) on it and an SK-6, it will beat the SK-6 hands down. I know, I have both of them here and have run them head-to-head.

Hoot
Thanks to everyone. Especially thanks to Hoot because I realized that I failed to mention that one of the middle cleats of the socket had been broken, and the dynatron uses all 6.

Hmm H2O cooling and just put the RAD out of the window (BTW the temp I got from the Danish National Weather forecast service) (hmmm what is 90F in C???? (I'm drunk as hell and can't convert))
That about 32 C. Did you mean +4 C or I am assuming you meant -4 C
