hey, i just picked up my new SSD, an OCZ Solid 2 Series 30GB drive, and after installing it, i absolutely love the new boot times, but running the Atto benchmark, the results are somewhat disappointing, i didnt realize that my two 500gb WD greens in raid0 would perform nearly as well in the read department, and way better in the write department.
these are the sorta speeds i should be getting out of my SSD, right?
ssd is on the left, Raid0 is on the right

I've never ran an HD bench before nor am I an expert at anything.

But is it just me or is your SSD crushing your WD RAID?

If you had a second OCZ you would overly crush it for sure.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary here.

I think you meant your SSD is on the left and RAID0 on the right. There's no way your SSD has 160MB/s writes, plus it says "C" for the drive on the left which is the boot drive.

Anyways, the results look fine.

oops, yeah, edited.
i thought that read speeds would be higher than my raid0
i guess not.
boot times are a heck of a lot faster now though :)

When I had 2x WD Caviar Black 640GB in RAID0 their reads were around 220MB/s and my X-25M is 240Mb/s. Looking at yours, the WD Green RAID0 is ~170MB/s and the Solid 2 is ~180MB/s, so that seems right to me. I love the SSD boot times too :thup:

kk, cool.
and yeah, it reboots in about the same amount of time that it used to take for it to just shut down, nevermind restarting again.
its only a 30GB drive though, any tips for how to go about best shrinking my windows 7 install?

Apparently vLite (http://www.vlite.net/) works for Windows 7, but you may need to be careful with some options. Google around - there are some threads/guides out there that can explain how it works.

A few simple things would be to disable page file, disable hibernation, turn off system protection/system restore, and reduce Recycle Bin capacity. You can always uninstall win7 features through the control panel. I think vLite can be used on Win 7 to remove some features, like extra languages.

Don't bother too much about read/write speeds, access time is strong point for a SSD. :)

...this

SSD's are about very very fast access times

not necessarily fast sequential reads/writes

Those results are in line with what is advertised by OCZ for the Solid 2 30GB

30GB Performance

* Read: Up to 170 MB/s
* Write: Up to 70 MB/s

You want more, you need to pay for more ;)

I would kill for either of those speeds.... I'm working on that issue as we speak.... :)
