View Full Version : Thinking of selling my PS3
Haven't played a lot of games lately, actually I keep buying games, only to lose interest within several hours. I don't know how to do this, thinking maybe Craigslist or eBay?
Anyway it's an old (not slim) PS3 with a 500 GB HDD (I upgraded it). It came with a 60 GB HDD, model "CECHA01"(?) not sure about the last bit of info. Never opened (except for the HDD bay), never cleaned either, works flawlessly
Games included
Bayonetta
Call Off Duty Modern Warfare 2
Darksiders
Batman Arkham Asylum
MAG
Resident Evil 5
Borderlands < I liked this one
Burnout Paradise
Condemned 2 Bloodshot
Blazing Angels 2
Killzone 2
Little Big Planet
Dirt 2
Dirt
Grand Theft Auto IV
Metal Gear Solid 4
Infamous < Liked this one too
Resistance Fall Of Man
Now I know this is an old PS3 and even though I paid $700 for it the new ones are only $300 so I have no idea what this would be worth. Any ideas?
Thanks.

if its backwards compatible with PS2 games, its worth quite a bit more than a average PS3.

I think it is but who seriously plays those games any more?

The best way to get a good idea of what it is worth, is to take a look around ebay or Craigslist and see what similar things are going for. That way, with CL, you can get an accurate idea of what to expect for your area. As far as ebay goes, you can pretty much sell it for whatever you want, since somebody will likely pay it.

Before you sell, you should wait for God of War 3 and Heavy Rain :D

60 gig models go for quite a bit if in good shape.
Quite a bit? Any ballpark figures? What do you mean in good shape?

Well mine, with a broken USB port, and some good scuffs, went for 275. Note, both of those were caused by my friend who I bought it off of.

60-80 gig systems go for between $250-$350 on craigslist these days.
They all have the older (larger) die-size... run quite a bit louder and are slightly more prone to error. Add to that they were worth quite a bit more when there were fewer PS3 games.
The fact that you have a 500 gig hard drive should help though.
I would aim for $350 in the hopes of getting $300.
That is the trouble with having too many games is that you don't tend to finish any one of them. Before selling, rent or get yourself uncharted 1 and 2 and play those first, they are a must have for all ps3 owner.

Another downside is if that PS3 dies and the new owners will have to flork around £129 to get it fixed and I doubt Sony will fix it my friends launch died in in November they gave him a credit note of £350 well the insurancers put the claim in on his behalf.
Defo get around $300 with all that if it's in good nick and boxed ect
So $300 for the PS3 and the games? Hmmm doesn't seem worth it. Maybe I should just stick with it.
BTW PS3 is in mint condition just a little bit dusty but nothing is broken or scratched.

Wow, see, that setup (well, the PAL equivalent of the 60GB backwards compatible version) upgraded to a 500gb HDD plus those games would probably score $800-$1000 NZD here (~$560-$700 USD) depending on what condition everythings in.. and it would sell quickly, too. Quite amazing how the markets differ o_O

Not sure what you were expecting. Games are essentially worthless once they've been on the market a month.
You possibly could do better if you were to sell the games individually on E-bay or Craigslist for $20 each and then sell the PS3 for $200-$250.

yeah I'd shoot around 500-600 $ with games , there are a lot of good games there.
OR sell the games on ebay or half.com , prolly get $20 each. And hope to get the PS3 sold for 300$.

i agree with fudge. You probably get more $ selling the console alone, separate from the games. Is there anything else you can get from gamestop? Sometimes they do have coupons and you get extra credit if you trade in with them. With ebay, you will have to go thru the hassle of posting and shipping each game individually. Not only that, it's also a chunk of $ you will have to pay ebay as well (plus fees using paypal too).

This. And ebay and paypal are trying their hardest to give the screws to sellers anymore.
You will get MUCH better value for the decent games on ebay rather than Gamestop. IMO it's worth the hassle of shipping.
Around here right now on Craigslist the PS3 that is backwards compatable gets about $300-$400 with controllers.
