I seem to go through headphones like a kid in a candystore, i break a new pair every 6 months and its getting annoying.

You know them laptops they build to be super tough? Toughbooks? I want headphones designed the same way. I literally want them to be as indestructible as possible.

Don't get me wrong, Im willing to pay good money to get headphones that last, i just don't want to pay too much. Any suggestions?

I used to go through about 1 pair of headphones a week. Most of my trouble came from the cord getting caught in my chair and me moving away from the desk....anyway, I ended up buying headphones in bulk because it was such a problem.

I was given a pair of these six years ago. They're by far my favorite headphones of all time. They work wonderfully. I've had to replace the ear-pads once, but that's it. The entire frame is made out of metal, and the cord has plenty of room to be twist, bent, and stretched because of its coiling design. They're also very popular. However, they're also not "inexpensive."

They're also comfortable on the ears for extended periods of time.

I ended up getting wireless headphones because of the snagging issue. I got a pair of sennheiser hd110's. I've had these for about 2 years now.

Look at most studio monitors. Sony MDR-V6 are a good place to start, rugged and compact and easily transportable. More than that... they're a hit for anybody who wants a nuetral can with some added bass.

I'm trying to remember how my dad broke his MDR-V6s, but in any case they lasted a good 5-10 years of heavy use before that. Other option would be the AD-700s, as I've yet to break mine. :)

I've had fatal1ty's for 4 years now and I drop them a lot. Never broke.

Although I don't use them anymore because 5Hv2 is better for the game I play.

I will never recommend a "gaming" headset.

They're nowhere near as sturdy as the V6. I could break the AD700's if I was too rough on them. The V6, I don't even think about it.

While I'd suggest that the AD700, if treated gingerly will last... I'm not sure the OP is more careful with his cans than you, KonaKona. I know you have that reputation, but if he breaks them every 6 months... odds are... AD700 might last just as long.

I had a pair of HD515's for about three years before the ear pad coverings seperated. I recently got a pair of HD280 Pros

FWIR the Shure 440 (http://www.amazon.com/Shure-Professional-Studio-Headphones-Black/dp/B002DP1FTU) and there big brother (shure 840) are pretty tough, but might be a bit out of your price range.

A pair of HD555 and they have stood up to me so far. Have a pair of Shure SCL4's, but I'm terrified to tear them up, so they stay coiled up most of the time.

Thanks for the advice, i went for the MDR V6 from the first link posted, now they are $3 cheaper, DOH! oh well, they sound like good headphones from the multiple recommendations.

If I manage to break these i'll try wireless.

If the pleather makes you sweat too much, these are a must... but to be honest they're more comfortable anyway. I highly recommend. Mine have these. It takes a bit of the lush flavor out of them but sound wise I could tell no difference in fact they should dampen more than the pleather which should reflect... so it seems to me you're going to get less of the sound reflecting from unwanted places and more of the sound that was meant for your ears from the get go.

If you want really indestructible, a pair of Koss Pro 4/AA would do the trick. They're built like tanks, and Koss is really good on their lifetime warranty, too, if you do manage to break something.

Bit of a bump but I'm bored at school and forgot about this thread.

I will never recommend a "gaming" headset.

Darn skippy.

Back when I just used headphones I could get at walmart I got maybe 3 weeks out of them. Right before I got into good headphones and bought some portapros I had maybe 10 or so pairs of koss sparkplugs, those made it maybe a month at the most. I'll defend my headphone destruction capabilities to the hills and back.

That aside, you might be able to break the AD700s if you try, but the important bit is you can't break them in regular use. The headband is flexible and the cord is built well, I'd be really surprised if I ever broke that thing.

The ATH-AD700 will sound better for sure, but it won't last like the sony will. It has a long cord as is, plus it's coiled... it's got stress relief out the ass.

I would go with the SRH440 or ATH-M50. If you are looking for portable circumaurals some decent cheap headphones that come to mind are the JVC FLATS.
